He was no where close to tagging him because Skelton froze. Considering how hard the ball was hit, if Skelton had tried to run past the 3B and gotten tagged out then they might have even had a shot at getting a triple play.
You're missing it. It's not trying to run past him or into a tag. He was 40 feet away from the 3rd baseman. He has to close the distance some and make the 3rd baseman tag him while having to pursue him or if 3rd baseman does what he should and fire straight to 2nd to get 2 he is already moving to 3rd and will be by the 3rd baseman before 2nd baseman can fire the ball that way. Bc he froze and didn't close any distance he put himself in no mans land standing in his own pile of shit. The 2nd baseman made an aware play and took the dead duck instead of to 1st. It's a baserunning mistake.
