Again, it would be ridiculous for me to tell you to personally fund that extra $7.5 million yourself if you want to see it.

But how is that any different than the standard Lebby supporter line of "you can't criticize him if you can't afford to pay his buyout yourself" ?

I understand that. But that was not my comment. More about lumping all fans as a golf crowd. MSU effed this up in a big way hiring Cohen, and then some years of poor gameday atmosphere, as well as lying about a logo, and the whole Arnett stuff.
To me the fan base is coming back but not overnight. The students are doing their part, which is far better than Ole Miss's students. Kiffin has complained about them every season. Are they a golf crowd?

Also, Ole Miss has so many sidewalk fans. I know tons in my extended family that go to ole miss games as their religion but cannot tell you where the first academic building on campus is at, nor did they go to college. Ole Miss currently has a 97% acceptance rate, and trying to call it "the Kiffin effect".

side note: How are we not driving in media the message that Ole Miss basically is letting in every single applicant. "Harvard of the South" ***

I and my golf crowd will be at the egg bowl. (i don't play golf but referencing with the spirit of this thread).
Knowing full well I will have to endure ole miss at our stadium and stomach watching our coach in training. But I am going, and I love the university, and the academic side of having a degree from the university.
For what its worth in my family the younger members looking to go to college like MSU over ole miss. Their parents go to Ole Miss games but never went to college. MS kids like MSU. So let's not lump every MSU fan into one stereotype of a golf crowd.

None of what you said is wrong. We screwed ourselves from 2016-2023. We hired a baseball coach as AD who prioritized his sport. He tried to be the smartest guy in the room in 2017 when our job was actually an attractive job. Our president nixed Sark because he was a recovering alcoholic. We kind of lucked into Leach, but Leach divided our fan base into Air Raid vs Ground and Pound. Leach then dies and we panic hire Arnett worrying about a HS recruiting class that was, in retrospect, shit outside of 3 players. We were late to the party on NIL so we were behind the 8 ball in funding when Lebby was hired.

A lot of that is out of the fans control. But there is also a point to make that you just cannot sit on your hands and wait for it to get better and then you will care. Unfortunately that is a majority of the fan base. Hell I can look at attendance numbers and tell you that. Even in our worst Mullen year we sold out the stadium, or at least it was not overtaken by opposing fan bases. That is on the fans. I always harken back to it, but it is that old Dan Mullen quote, “It is not win first and then the fans show up. Fans show up and start believing in the program and buying in and the wins will come.”

Can you link me to Dan Mullen saying this, along with what year he said it? I can't find it anywhere.

    Agree with you.
It is a fan's prerogative to not invest with such a poor ROI, and poor leadership as we had in recent years. I had season tickets this year, and Selmon has done a great job with game day atmosphere. Maybe I am too optimistic, but it feels like the fans are on the cusp of additional support but have been burned for a very long time by their own university.

Circular, but we just need that 6th W, as you mentioned.

For the record, I think this is a pretty good summary. It just frustrates me to think we're willingly going to sign up for another year of it in 2026 when we don't have to.

Speaking of OC candidates. What are the thoughts on kicking the tires on Will Muschamp to come in as DC? Just a thought I mean he?s only a defensive analyst at UGA. Was actually demoted to that role recently from Co-DC

Wait... Air is actually living in Starkville? What the heck does he do with his time if not football help?

Look if Lebby kinda recognized he needs an OC. Why not just give Art the OC duties for the egg bowl he has two weeks to get the calls going. What's it going to hurt?

2014 Press Conference after Texas A&M. It's readily available on Youtube and has been for a decade plus. It's also in the Hailstate Highlight from that game at the end. I have linked both videos below.

That was a he wanted to be demoted. He's done with the day to day of coaching and being a DC. He's happy at his alma mater making 6 figures

That?s a bummer. Who are some other potential candidates for DC you think SVS?

I think a lot of it depends on what coaches are out there. I mean what does Blake Baker do? Does he stay on with the new staff? That'd be an obvious upgrade.

What happens with Ron Roberts at Florida?

What happens at Washington? Does Jedd Fisch get out? And does that open up Ryan Walters?

Same with Auburn. Does Durkin stay on with the new coach?

I mean if you're looking outside the box:

    1. Jesse Bobbitt-Washington St

    2. Rob Aurich-San Diego St

    3. Todd Bates or Jay Valai- Co-DCs at Oklahoma

    4. Vince Kehres-Toledo

    5. Colin Hitschler-James Madison

All of these are significantly better and higher ranked total defenses than we have currently I?d take any of them. I like the idea of Blake baker for sure. That?s if he doesn?t stay at LSU and is available

It will all depend on who LSU hires. If they hire say, Lincoln Riley, I could see them keeping Blake. Same with Joe Brady. If they were to hire a Jon Sumrall, I could see Blake moving on.

Interesting. I doubt Keenum allows Lebby to hire Durkin unfortunately

That depends on how much pressure is applied from boosters.

It thought we were after Durkin two years ago when Lebby got here but A&M wouldn?t let him out of his contract.

If Durkin is available and Keenum doesn?t care it will take a damn good salary and an assistant head coach tag to get him here.
