Sunday Morning QB- Cripple Fight Edition
1. Having a game on Saturday sucks as a HS coach. Especially when you lose said game. A rivalry game that is considered more important than making the playoffs. A pregame meal of baked chicken and green beans followed by an after game Whataburger. Saturday was not a culinary delight in any way at all.
2. Well, we knew Shapen was going to get hurt. So its not surprising. Was hoping it wouldnt be in his first SEC game- but here we are. It would be a big mistake to have him back next year to get hurt again. In this new era of unrestricted free agency and NIL- dont make the same mistake twice. Learn from your mistakes. We rolled the dice and crapped out.
3. Remember me telling you word was that Parson is not the future? Well now you see who we went with yesterday. I expect both will play the rest of the season but the Freshman is likely to get most of the snaps. An ugly offense for most of 2024 just got uglier.
4. Plastic Man getting hurt really sux because the offense finally showed some signs of life. 480 yards. 240 on the nose each way. Daniels is an actual RB and looked solid for the 2nd week in a row- 5.5 per carry. I'll say this again for the 2nd week in a row- the OL is not good BUT having a guy at RB with a little vision shows its not terrible. Being able to run the ball some allows the offense to stay on the field longer by keeping us out of 2nd/3rd and longs constantly.
5. Fla is not a good offense and we made them look like a good offense. 6.6 per rush. Couldnt hardly force an incompletion. No pressure on the QB. Just bad all the way around. Recruit, recruit, recruit.
That's all I got. Not much to say right now. Lebby is going to get 3 years for sure. Let's hope he and his staff's portal evals- especially defensively- are better in Nov and Dec than they were in 2023. Not to mention some quality player development with the free agents we end up keeping on the team.

I'm going to disagree slightly and say that if we finish 2-10 this year and don't improve to at a minimum 5 wins next year, Lebby has to be gone in November 2025.
-
An NFL all star offense could not cover up the deficiencies of our defense. No matter what they do it will never be enough.

The AD's handpicked choice for HC from the time he fired Arnott is going to get at least 3

The talent on defense is not as bad as we are playing. We are the only defense that somehow can not put 3 over 2 on the perimeter but yet still be short in the box. It is almost as bad as the yacht clubs bootleg pull into each other offense.
Im not gonna congratulate Lebby for scoring 28 on a Florida team that wont win another SEC game this year

I don?t think a guy who?s defense gave up 62 just two weeks ago should be talking other coaches..

According to Charlie it sounds like a lot of the players we brought in were kind of already put in motion by the last staff and when Lebby got here there was a lot of hay in the barn.
We have a GM on staff that is going to be doing a lot of player evaluations going forward for us going forward so we will see if that improves our player evaluations. I believe this is someone who has worked with Alabama and Ohio State.
As far as Shapen it's going to depend on how MVB performs and looks.

Probably correct. I know we were kicking the tires on Preston Stone at SMU, but that probably changed yesterday. If MVB looks good, I imagine Shapen transfers out but if he doesn’t we will need to go into the portal because Shapen is probably out until after Spring. I doubt we would rush him back.
-
Daniels by far looked the best. There were several times Booth had a gap for an easy 5 or 6yds but for some reason (lack of vision or thinking he's Reggie Bush) bounced outside only to get tackled for 3yds.

Very true and with him being so injury prone we're going to need someone that can play. And since they're going to want to start at some point it needs to be someone with multiple years of eligibility.

I thought Lee looked good as well.

Man it seems that I am the only one who thinks MVB offense hummed much better than Shapens. I'm excited to see what MVB does this year. I actually was excited to see the offense come back out when he was in.

Does anyone know if Lebby meddles with the defense and messes stuff up or is Hutzler just that bad? I don?t understand how he?s so bad at calling coverages

If we finish 2-10 and then 4-8 or less, I sure hope we'd tell Selmon that if he doesn't fire Lebby, they'll both be fired.
It's a new era. Coaches don't get "time" anymore, and they shouldn't get it. There are lots of examples of teams reinventing themselves in one offseason through the portal, and Lebby better do that this winter.
-
According to what some of y'all are saying we're gonna have to spend millions of dollars on a defense and proven qb this off season. Otherwise 2026 is going to be the litmus test for Lebby.

$12 million. That's what it will take to rebuild this program and we better have better talent evaluations.

Likely 100% correct. Napier will still be fired this year. I do think Lebby will get three years as 34 predicted. Not sure there’s another route. If I’m a successful G5 coach I’m not sure I would touch us at the moment. Maybe if Lebby doesn’t work but is able to get some positivity going. Probably not any sooner than 2026.

Lebby needs to have us very competitive and punching hard above our weight in 2026. If not, he needs to go.

We can't do that. That would be five coaching changes since 2017.
We need some kind of a foundation and if after three seasons it doesn't work then we fire him.
