Is Bragg that bad at 3rd? His hitting can't be much worse. Stovall comes back and move Cody back to the outfield and Bragg at 3rd should be our best hitting lineup.
Hopefully Alexander is settling in. His stats say he was 2/11 (.180) with 4 k on the weekend; but if he steps on 1b Thursday night, he's 3/11 (.270) with a double. I thought he had some good swings this weekend. He definetely has to step up though
tried looking back but couldnt find it. Somebody put a statistics sheet that compiled several different categories and Luke was somewhere around 4-5 on the team.......
Belmont is overmatched right now at the plate. Either we see some improvement soon or Stovall needs to play 3rd. You can't hit .175 and play 3B. It's a line-up killa.
On the weekend...
Mangum -- 4/13 .310
Rooker -- 5/13 .380
Gridley -- 1/10 .100
Macnamee -- 2/8 .250
Brown -- 6/11 .550
Poole -- 4/12 .250
Alexander -- 3/11 .270 (giving credit for hit thurs)
Lovelady -- 3/9 .333
Blaylock -- 0/8 .000
If you're going to use SSSs, use the most recent. Alexander handled the ball pretty well this weekend against the 2nd best BA against and 3rd best ERA in sec.
Go back 2 more sec games and Alexander is 4/14 (.290). Not sure why you pick now to say he needs to be benched except for just pushing my buttons which you always have a nack for haha
Lmao- now we are giving Belmont credit for hits he didn't get. Holy shit
He was 2/11 on the weekend- he is 5/29 in SEC play- there is no defending that. With Kentucky and SC coming up- we'll see how it goes
Why would we take LA out and leave Blaylock in?
Belmont is 3/22 his last 6 games (includes Memphis)
3/22
You can't defend that
8 K's in those 6
3/22 the last 6
6/36 since we started conference play and the competition got tougher. That's .167
That's a very bad trend. You can't defend it. Either he gets it going soon or you move Stovall to 3B. And yes- Blaylock needs to get going or bench his ass too
We have no one as good as Alexander to play 3B. Let's see how it goes once he's healthy. I have my doubts about his ability to hit the ball, but until he's healthy, I'm letting it ride.
When Stovall returns, you put him at 2b and replace blaylock with brown in OF imo
Alexander is still a better option than pretty much anything on our bench, while being a plus defender. If anything, when Stovall returns you put him at 2B, Cody in the outfield in Blaylock's spot, and leave LA at 3B. Alexander just needs some confidence...he hasn't had a good game in a while.
So coach, if you decide to bench LA and Blaylock, who you gonna put in their spots? There's only 1 Stovall. Blaylock is hurting us more than LA right now, both play good D. Not disagreeing that in a perfect world we throw another Stovall or Gridley at 3B and another Cody in RF...but we don't have better options than LA. Stovall will go back to 2B and Cody to OF in Blaylock's spot if you ask me. That's the only logical way to do it. Stovall isn't a 3B anyway imo.
Seems like Gridley would be higher.
The only logical place I can see Bragg playing barring injuries is DH. But at the same time I think Cann likes the lineup he has been rolling out there and I don't think he wants to mess with it too much as long as we're winning. That's another reason why Stovall to second and Cody Brown to the OF in place of Blaylock makes a lot of sense given how good Stovall looked when healthy hitting in the 9 hole "in front" of Mangum. I expect Stovall to take a couple of weeks to get his swing back- but once he does having more runners on in front of Mangum, Rooker, and Gridley will make our offense that much better.
The fact that Cann pulled Bragg out of the middle of a game and was willing to start Cody Oquendo at third when LA was hurt says a lot to me.
Plus, I think LA will probably hit better as he heals up too- he still hit better than Gridley this weekend whether we count him missing first base or not.
