All about who’s ready to scrap the hardest tomorrow. And that’s what concerns me.
But of course we’ll all tune in and hope for the best.
Hail State!
Auger officially done for the season, per Lemonis in the post-game. That sucks, but expected I guess. Hopefully he can come back quickly.
Hopefully cooler heads prevail. It is a fundamentally different game if defenses aren't allowed to adjust for batters' tendencies, and batters can be rewarded for being so predictable and 1-dimension.
I remember one article where Joey Gallo was crying about how unfair the shift is, and when the reporter pointed out he could just bunt for some singles and then teams wouldn't be able to shift so extremely on him, his response was something along the lines of "but I don't want to bunt! I want to hit for power!!" like a spoiled brat who doesn't see the irony that once he proved he could hit bunt singles he'd get more opportunities to hit for power and also maybe get an average above his career high of .253 (his second best season in batting average was .209).
He shouldn't even get an opinion w a k rate he has that's through the roof. 20 years ago he would have already been served his retirement papers. Terrible hitter. Can't stand the way the game is going. Less runs this year through 2 weeks than the past 7 years. Maybe it's the ball. But people can't hit. And I know pitchers are way better- at least velo wise. But it's a turn and burn game. Sucks.
We had this guy in Biloxi, AA, as our leadoff a few years ago. The opposing team would shift right against him, and he started bunting on. He did that the first 4 games of the series, 7 game series, after that they played him straight up. If batters would do that a few times that would end the shift/
I also agree. And what's to stop teams from just having guys run to spots once the ball is thrown or the pitcher is into his windup?
We're talking about Rob Manfred here. He's an idiot. Just keeps meddling with the rules and he has forgotten that people actually just want to watch baseball.
There is a fallacy that eliminating the shift will lead to more hits and offense.
And people like Joey Gallo are why. He's going to keep striking out a lot with or without a shift. There is this idea that you can't hit for power and average. And yet many of the HOF's did. You can go gap to gap and still hit with power. But not enough people teach that. Or these kids learn turn and burn and the ones fortunate enough to make it to the pros pretty much have to be taught how to hit. It's CRAZY!
If it's me and I had the ability to hit at a pro level talent wise I would much rather be Mike Trout or Albert Pujols than Joey Gallo.
That's one way. The other way is to have an approach to use the whole field and protect the plate with two strikes.
There was a lot of weird in this thread
