Need to score a bunch. This guy is flat

My points being made, I do like these freshmen position players. They are what our base talent SHOULD look like.

MSU's SHOULD be able to recruit at such a level that every year we've got 1-2 Major League position players in our lineup with the Allen & Rowdy Jordan types making up the average talent level of the team.

Gee two freshman hitters got it started off this inning but Shotgun says they aren’t talented...

I think even if Wes had been hired earlier instead of late because of Butch then we would have been in a lot better shape. I think Wes trying to rush his system was the biggest issue.

I know that about 4 years ago, Paul Mainieri began making Canny recruit small, fast guy & went with a defense first / power 2nd approach. I think that same thought process influenced Cohen.

Jordan, Allen, Foscue, Westburg, Anderson, Hatcher. Four of those guys were drafted out of high school and all of these guys will be drafted in the top 10 rounds their junior year.

And he's going to have about 8 of them drafted this year at Arkansas. Wes wasn't here long enough to screw it up.

Maybe. Again, they are nice players & what our base talent SHOULD look like.

None of those guys will go in the top 3 rounds, where future ML position players go.

Rep given. I absolutely agree. We do not do enough of the little, ordinary baseball things well enough to be a really good team. Besides pitching problems, it is like we have mental blocks at times. We do not work counts when we should, to get a pitch count up (swing away on fist couple of pitches). We make many unforced errors when base running. We can't bunt runners over when we need to. etc. Those are just killers against decent teams. You can get by with some of that when you have a top 10 offense, but we do not.

Agreed. I would be infinitely more happy with Wes as interim right now than Henderson. Total different mentality. Our pitchers had some stones with Wes coaching them and played the position of pitcher. These guys now are way too soft and that's on henderson. Pitchers take the persona of their pitching coach. There is no intensity in our pitching staff.

Taking the good with the bad, Billinglsley has done a nice job going late in this game.

If we were to win, his effort would give us a punchers chance going forward

Oh he was definitely here long enough to screw up some arms when he had them throwing with weighted baseballs. Perhaps he learned from getting called the serial arm killer for the next two years that maybe that wasn't a smart approach.

I agree about Wes' pitchers having a much stronger attacking mentality though. We are weak mentally on the mound.
