Way to put it out there Coach. I too think we can win, and believe like you that it will look more like 2014 vs LSU than 2017 vs UGA. Let?s do this. #HailState
Bama is going to load the box. So if we are going to win- it will be because Osiris Mitchell, Jordan Thomas, Reggie Todd, Jamal Couch, and Jesse Jackson beat them
Now say that out loud and see if you believe that can happen
We had not done squat against LSU for 20 years. Look at the teams of this year and compare them. We aren?t going to get blown out. Alabama is not what you’re making them out to be in your head this year. They are better than us, but it’s not as big a gap as our fans are making it out to be for this year’s team. What has happened in the past has no impact on Saturday. They are down 4 linebackers and their best player was half speed Saturday, and they have not looked overpowering against anyone worth a shit.
You know more about Xs and Os, but I'd be surprised if Bammer "loads" the box... Don't you think they can get enough pressure with 4 + blitzes, or do you think they just won't respect the threat of a pass, at all???
I don't think we've loaded up on anyone this year... I'm pretty sure we played LSU straight up....
But I'll defer....
Well ... you haven't really played anyone yet either. LSU ran a little on you and if Etling was halfway decent y'all would have walked out of Bryant-Denny with an L.
I think you may have to cheat a little in this one. This Bama front 7 ain't like normal Bama front 7s ... and I was thinking so before the injuries. The combination of size, speed, and physicality hasn't been there to my eye. I also have been surprised with our O-line. They ain't half bad (you're welcome Hev).
If, and it's a big IF, Mullen decides to actually game plan a little for this one and not play his usual tippee-toe dance with a good team on offense while he puts his defense deep in the hole every damn possession, then we might can hang for a while. And maybe for most of the game.
Otherwise, he'll probably be pissed at Grantham post-game cause our D sucked because it gave up 275 total yds but also 31 or more points cause Bama had a short field on 3 - 4 TD drives.
Also, I believe it would help if Gibson got some significant carries in this game. He's the most powerful and has the best vision of all our RBs. Aeris might can gain some yards, but against Bama I believe Gibson is the better running option.
Ga has the D that y'all usually have.
ETA: BTW, they were talking about Wisconsin's resume tonight and that they didn't belong where they were. They must not be looking too hard at Bama's resume **
This is where my mind is. I actually think Coach (OP) could be right...if he were CDM. I'm so frustrated right now with the TE thing that I'd be willing to bet unleashing them in this game hasn't even occurred to Mullen. I wish he would let his balls hang out and call this game like we are favored by 10 points.
Other than my above mentioned fear that Dan will basically play not to lose, I would actually feel we have a decent shot. Although each had different strengths and difficiencies, I think when drawing a line across the board looking at the level of "goodness " for lack of a better term, this MSU team and the 2014 team are comparable. I do not think this Bammer team is on quite as high a level as the 2014 one. We are the home team this time as well. We have lost badly two times on the road. Don't look at UMass. Those game games happen every Saturday across the nation. Now, they are not Bama...but we have absolutely blown a 7-2 SEC team and a 6-3 SEC team off the blinkin' field. This not last year, nor is it September of this year. We have a chance but have to let it all hang out. I would unleash the TE in this game and bring 8 on Bammer's first play from scrimmage. If you play like Mad Dogs (Coaches included) and get beat, who gives a crap? We're gonna lose anyway right?
