That?s a whole class over 4 years. That?s new scholarships allowed. At the end they are down 24 total. That?s the way it worked at USC. They are my second team and they still haven?t quite recovered. UM ain?t SC, 24 total will devastate them.

COI accepted their self-imposed, then said "double that and tack on some more."
Let's not give in to what to what the Land that Time Forgot does best: spin
These will hurt. And hurt some more if players transfer.
Guys USCw Got what 30 over 3?
They are just now getting back to the USC of old. Took them basically 7 years.
24 over 4 isn't a slap on the wrist by any means it's a big blow. And they are Umiss football not USC , not even close
Yeah, but OM smartly self-imposed 11 scholarship reductions from 2015-2018. So they have basically already taken care of that penalty through roster management. 13 over the next 4 is not that bad considering how much they cheated.
So, OM has 18 seniors graduating. Say 7 people transfer (conservative). They are down to 60 scholarship players. They can only sign 18 this year. That keeps them at 78 next season, right? 21 JRs the next year, assume 3 leave early or transfer. So that brings them down to 60 again, 78 total again. 29 soph. So assume the other 4 come feom that class. They sign 18 again. So after 3 years, they are at 71 scholarship players. That's it. Unless around 20 transfer, this isn't really that bad for them. Smh.
So Freeze gets a 1 year show cause and couple game suspension, but it only applies if he's a head coach. He can become a coordinator today and not miss a beat, if what I'm reading is correct.
Why wouldn't Ole Miss just hire him as a OC, let Matt run the show and they're back in business?
Ross Bjork has to be toast, right?
I?m not believing anything until the ncaa officially releases it at 10:30. These guys are going to continue to lie right to the bitter end. Chillax guys
Somehow they have 42 freshmen on their roster. I guess a lot of practice squad guys. But that will help them get through it.
They did, and that was a smart move. But it also contributed to a general change in their trajectory and a change in their perception around college football. The collateral damage has been huge, with high school prospects not wanting anything to do with them.
They've now gone two years with no bowl, with likely multiple more years to go.

Completely, totally stunned with the Hugh Freeze penalty. Given everything else, that's it for him?
That would probably cause the NCAA to open an Oxford location. They can keep Luke who knows how the Network operates and also saw how they were caught. I imagine they will crank it back up pretty soon. It will be interesting if they try some Flipmas bullshit this year.
Their ceiling will be 6 wins for the next 5 or 6 seasons.
I get that. What I don't get is how long he was affiliated in some capacity with all this nonsense, even before becoming the head coach, and he gets a minor slap on the wrist? Farrar can not be too pleased on how this has gone down now, since he's basically done and Freeze will be showing up on the sidelines somewhere very soon.
As long as these are in addition to UM's self penalties then it is kind of bad.
Yep, as of right now all he did was call a hooker. Petrino wrecked a bike with his mistress on the back of it and he's on the sidelines coaching. Someone will hire this douchebag. It may not be as an OC, but it could be as an analyst. Regardless, his coaching career continues while those he instructed get left for dead.
Given that the penalties were stiff but not quite nuclear and that Freeze in particular got off relatively light, I think there's at least a chance the NCAA is setting them up for a second shot in a year or two if they continue operating the way they do. Maybe something additional is already in the works.
Chuck now saying 13 total. If that is true, they got of pretty easy. I know the 2 yr. bowl ban is bad, but they sure as hell didn't go by their matrix. That's for damn sure.
The question now is how exactly does the transfers work. Is it just for the Sr class in 2018 or the Jr and Sr class in 2018? If the second, that means this years So. and Jr's. That's what is confusing.
I'll be satisfied with 24, but disappointed as hell with 13. And if you remember, OM didn't sign a full class last year and will be trying to use those scholly's not used as being part of the total.
The NCAA press release will say that Hugh Freeze and Jeffery Vitter admitted that the #OleMiss booster culture was “craziness” and “disturbingly questionable."
It honestly doesn't matter either way. ESPN is reporting 24 total, but that includes 11 from 2015 to 2018 that were self imposed. So do that math, even if it's worst case ("24"), it's only about 15 over the next 3 years. I don't even think it qualifies as a slap on the wrist at this point. 2018, 2019 and maaaaybe 2020 will be rough for them. Then, they fire Luke, get a real coach, and it's back off to the races.
The biggest saving grace in all of this is that we may get better access to the 2019 MS class, even though most would've leaned our way anyway. This is a big nothing-burger.
Looking like 13 total now...
