Choctaw Central would blow Prep off the field you say. Choctaw Central beat Northeast Lauderdale 28-7. Tri County Academy in Flora, MS beat Northeast Lauderdale 42-7. And I promise that Tri County Academy doesn’t want to play Prep or Hartfield.

Easy fix, privates just join MSHAA and play it out.
Great game. 19-14 but came down to last 2 minutes. Very good game. Congrats to Hartfield.
That would be a negative as well. It was a defensive game and Prep actually runs up tempo. Prep beat them regular season in a shootout but this was a defensive game and field position. Very good game.
I will preface this by saying that I watched them when they played Magnolia Heights so that could have skewed my thoughts on them, but it seemed like Hartfield would just out athlete everyone and tempo people. I felt the only way to stay with them was bleed the clock.
Did we not offer Kenzi West at Hartfield.
Saw he's committed to Houston.
We did not. He was always a wait and see and if we came back at the end and had a spot we’d offer. I doubt we do it though. We are probably done at WR in the HS ranks. Waiting on the kid from Crowley in TX. I think we will get him. Have seen him play and he is electric.
I hope that is not you MS making these posts. I have some close McComb connections with a couple being some of my best friends. And as a side note- I could still hit a Parklane pitcher pitch for A HR today. 7 of 29 lifetime HS HR's thanks to the shitty pitching from McComb
a town of no-talent ragarms
I know that Prep blew out West Jones and MRA blew out Oak Grove this year and those are legit public school teams.
I guess it's like anything else. Some teams are better than others. The Jackson Country Club schools (Prep, JA, MRA, and Hartfield) can probably at least compete with any team in the state and maybe beat them. Not being able to beat the best team in 7A has always been a weird criticism and I went to a public school.
The fact of the matter is these schools are recruiting and they're probably cleaning out JPS and probably the metro some- I won't pretend I know where all of these schools recruit from or how that goes down- and they've gotten a lot better. Playing a public school isn't a niche thing for them anymore so they're used to it. Look at Jackson State's roster. They have several players from the Country Club schools. I never thought that would ever happen 25 years ago. Prep has players going to Baylor, Duke, Air Force I think and I know we're looking at one of the CB's. Hartfield has Brayland Womack who might be the best in the state in 2026, two guys going to Arkansas, and a guy going to Houston. A public school with that many players going D1 would be able to contend for a state title I would think.
Honestly, I could make a strong argument that Jackson Prep is the best overall football program in Mississippi High School football if you're talking about consistency.
I wish we?d offer Kenzi West. I don?t understand, if he?s equal to some kid from Texas or juco, why not take the local kid? Also the DT from Hartfield London Simmons. These are guys we used to get. He?s a 3 star committed to Alabama with offers from LSU, Florida State, and Arkansas. But we haven?t offered. They also have Reggie Vaughn another DT committed to Arkansas. On top of that you have one of the top players in the nation as a junior in Braylon Womack. Assuming how little we?ve recruited Hartfield, have no shot at him.
If MS are initials then NO.
So I guess that means you were a private school legend back when there really was a difference between public and private. Thanks for clearing that up.
Parklane had some good pitchers and not so good pitchers. I guess it depends on when you came through. But to say all pitchers from McComb are shitty is a broad over generalization, but again have to consider the source here.
Simmons is NOT the defensive lineman you want. I have watched numerous games even against lesser competition for him. Unless something drastically changes with him and effort, he won’t be at Al long.
Vaughn is a class act and wonderful young man and an absolute Dawg on the field. Hope nothing but the best for him and many contracts in his future.
Womack is rumored to be heading to IMG next year.
BUT I was told there are no athletes on private school teams and they couldn’t compete with East Webster, No county, Choctaw Cent or County or any public school for that matter. Hmmm
Oh they can compete. Like I said, top end talent they are close. I mean Cunningham and Taylor are the two best players in the state so they do not have that, but they have solid players. Heath recruited a hell of a team. Depth would be their issue against a public school and that’s when I think the public school team would pull away. If it was just a run of the mill 3A public school or a rebuilding team in a higher level I think they win. Obviously there will always be outlier private school teams(Greenville Christian in 21), but I do not believe a private school team would have an answer for Taylor.
You said early they would be run off the field by those teams now it is they would compete. Yes Taylor is a great player and Cunningham is as well, BUT they would not beat Hartfield, Prep or MRA. It is not even a debate. Give it a rest. One player can be taken out of the equation by coaching. I would dare say that Prep,MRA and Hartfield would “compete” as you say better against Brandon, Tupelo or any other major 6A/7A powers than any team you mentioned.
They would not. But hey, why don't they just schedule them? Weird they have never done that. I'm sure Tupelo would happily play them. Or Brandon. Heck. Noxubee would play anyone. The thing I liked about that Greenville Christian team a few years ago is that they literally didn't care. They wanted to play anyone. Travelled down to Oak Grove to play and travelled to Collins Hill to play Travis Hunter. They didn't care. Then of course Prep, JA, and MRA got their panties in a wad because Greenville Christian waxed all of them and started calling them out for doing THE EXACT THING they had done for decades.
I just read this argument from you
Cunningham and Choctaw County???? The same Choctaw County that this year lost to Parklane Academy??? Parklane Academy also played Prep and MRA. Care to guess what team got blown out by both??
You defeated your own argument. Wow, bad take and really bad comparison. I guess Parklane did not get ?out athleted” by Choctaw County and Cunningham
I still can't figure that one out. I have went back and watched it 3 times and it is incredible. Parklane had no one who could guard him and Choctaw just refused to just throw go routes. They were trying to run their offense instead of out athlete a private school team. I don't know if it was that Parklane had played twice and it was Choctaw's first game or what but I mean no part of that game makes sense. Go back and watch it.
I don’t need to go back and watch it. I know the quality that those 3 schools put on the field by FAR at EVERY position outclassed Parklane. And the fact that Parklane was not run of the field but indeed did BEAT Choctaw County just deepens the fact that your argument is INVALID.
Ok cool. I've learned with other topics on this board that you think you're right and everyone else is wrong and I don't really care to keep having it. When Prep or Hartfield decides they want to play a schedule that doesn't include Copiah, Adams County Christian, Pillow, Simpson, and Oak Forest I will respect them and pay attention. Until then, I could honestly care less. I'm still going to think competition is not on the same level. Also, Shane is screwing up private schools so bad at this point I imagine most will be playing in the MHSAA within 5 years anyways.
You meant … you could honestly NOT care less…. Have a good day
All I know is, we played and beat Parklane in the offseason and they would win state championships and we would not make the playoffs in 4A. And we had 2 guys on our team that have World Series rings. Plus we had 3 play college ball. One of those with the rings went straight pro out of college (this was my class only) not counting the guys graduating a year before or after my year.
I use to think like you until I started watching them.
MRA beat Oak grove by 43 points this year. The same oak grove that was playing in the 7A quarterfinals Friday. 43 points. And that was with a running clock. It could have been 60 if they wanted to.
Hartfield and prep and mra can compete (would win some and lose some) with anybody in the state.
Mra played Oak grove, Pulaski (ranked 4 in Arkansas public or private), prep (lost handily), Hartfield (won by 9), and JA (won by like 10). That's tougher than most public schools. Hartfield definitely needs to schedule better, no argument there.
34 you will get no argument from me on public vs private baseball even 20-30 years ago. I would dare say private now is better than public competition wise. Also Hillcrest was probably best of the bunch and it doesn’t exist anymore.
However the old mantra from those same 20-30 years ago in regards to football is not valid anymore, which is what this thread turned into. Those big 3 private schools can and will compete with anyone in the state.
The argument that was said about not enough athletes is just laughable.
Hartfield did if for the glory of God.
Parklane was never very good in baseball. Their titles came in football. Also, many public school people dont usually take into account or even think about the fact that Parklane in MHSAA would have been a 2A school. So in 2A- they would have been a solid club.
And I was just giving ya some shit about McComb. Know alot of good guys from there. That damn town put out some great talent in the 80's.
I keep seeing that no private school could handle Kamario Taylor. MRA beat a high school senior quarterback named Shedeur Sanders. He’s now a Heisman candidate and potentially the top quarterback taken in the NFL draft.
good comparison although KT is a lil better at this stage than sanders was
