Messing up is different than negligence or incompetence. We are all human. We all make mistakes. These refs didn't "miss a call". They stood there, saw the obvious and clear call, then committed gross negligence that should not be tolerated. If someone sees 2+2 and just doesn't realize it equals 4, then they shouldn't be a math teacher making $189,000 a year.

I'm sure these refs are nice people, but some things can't be tolerated. There is a line and they crossed it.

How do you know that ref did not miss that call on purpose? Millions of us have seen the video and still pictures and the obvious stand for itself. Remember, Las Vegas Casinos have spent many dollars on the new Raiders stadium. Understand, corrupt referees impact games starting from Pop-Warner to the upper levels.

I think the NFL and other sports for that matter just need to do away with human officials and go solely to technology. Until the NFL does- this kind of crap is going to happen from time to time. And it's ridiculous because the technology is there to make sure that stuff like what happened in the Saints game doesn't happen. Video detects a foul and then the official is there basically to assess it and announce the penalty to the crowd. And the officials main function otherwise is to make sure a fight doesn't break out between the players during the game.

What you are missing is if you fire anyone that makes a bad call like this, you are than left with referees who are worse than where you started with. Where do you get the next batch...college football? Do you think SEC referees are any better? NFL officials are better and its not close. To take this stance you have to have a better alternative, and sadly there isn't any. Don't forget about the replacement officials from a few years ago and that disaster

So you are telling me that there is nobody else in the country that could have made that call for $189,000? I just don't agree with that.

There is currently a shortage of nurses. So if a nurse kills somebody because of gross negligence, we just let that nurse keep on practicing? Or do we yank the nurse's license?

Let me tell you how economics work. If refs were fired for being incompetent, it would cause a shortage of refs, a rise in referee salaries, and then an influx of potential employees desiring those positions. Right now, many don't strive for those positions because the positions have a low turnover rate due to no accountability. So people know the jobs are almost impossible to get. Even though it pays almost $200,000 for a part-time gig.

And even though you make take a step back with your replacement, you have to hold people accountable to protect the integrity of the business. If my CFO embezzles money from the company I run, I have to fire her to protect the integrity of the business. I can't keep her because I say that "I can't find a replacement as good."

It wasn't just one guy. A good crew helps a guy get it right when he misses a call that bad. THose guys all stood around and did nothing. To me that was the wrs part of it. Anybody can miss a call, but no way an entire crew should miss one that bad.

Exactly. Get your heads together, consult, and throw the flag. Rams will be unhappy about a delayed half, but the call would be correct.
