I imagine BOC is real sad right now.
I hope Bert Stare is headed to Virginia to pu our HC**
LOL
One of these days you people are going to figure out that the fan base of msu baseball is a double edged sword. It is one of the factors that makes this job a monster and not for just any coach out there. At least the guys running this search know that. As for that Selmon is going to hire who is told to on this one. At least he is smart enough to know that others can make the right choice for the program, much different than the last one. Could happen in ten days time or a little longer.
I think it's pretty unlikely that O'Connor, Bakich, and Wasikowski all tell us no, and even if they do, I'm not sure that Thompson is #4 on the list or that he would have any reason to come here anyway. Those other 3 would be leaving conferences that aren't committed to baseball to come to the SEC. That's not a concern for Thompson.
The key factor here is that O'Connor can openly negotiate for the job as of today, while the others have to wait at least a week, probably longer, and focus on their own current jobs.
Rule 1
Never trust authority. Typically they screw up.
That is Selman in this case.
It?s up to us to hold them accountable via public pressure and damn sure don?t trust them.
Plus if we can?t talk about this stuff what are we gonna talk about on a sports message board?
For the last time SELMON IS NOT THE LEADER OF THIS SEARCH! He is talking the advice of guys that are uniquely qualified to find the right man for the job of Head Coach Mississippi State Baseball.
Who are these guys you are referring to?
Hope you're right, but we heard that in football back in December 2023 and then we hired Selmon's grossly unqualified personal friend, a guy who our fanbase disliked from his time at Ole Miss, as well as having some ... personal baggage ... from before then.
Having said that, I think we're going to make a home run hire this time.
So if we make a great baseball hire, folks on this board can't tell us what a great job Selmon is doing?
I was warming up to him when he fired Lemonis because I thought he had a plan for sure. Now some of y'all are telling us that he really plays no part in this. Interesting
I think if it is O?Connor, we will know fairly soon. Virginia will run a graphic on social media showing that they locked in O?Connor or it will be the national media leaking O?Connor is staying put. I think Virginia will want to lock O?Connor asap.
Lebby is not, for the last time, a personal friend. That narrative is so far from false it?s not even funny. Had he wanted to hire a friend, it would?ve been Shane Beamer.
And this post above is the core reason we never win. ?Personal baggage? get out of here. Saban had baggage, Ed O had baggage, Meyer had baggage, Kiffin had baggage. And you know what? They win..
Again. Curious to know who these guys are?
What a thread
I'm not sure if the best response is to point out that none of those 4 have anywhere near the "personal baggage" that Lebby has, or if it's better to point out that Lebby hasn't won a damn thing or given us any reason to think he ever will here.
I'm the reason we don't win because I think our 2-10 football coach probably sucks? And when I'm one of the few posters here who doesn't think we're unworthy of Brian O'Connor's attention? That's just not true on either count.
If Lebby starts winning, I'll keep forgetting about the icky situation at Baylor (I will give him some grace and say that these situations are complicated and he just can't condemn his father-in-law without tearing his family apart), but if we are looking for a new coach in 6 months, I'm sure going to unforget it, and I think the rest of our fans will too.
Last thing I?ll say so I don?t hijack a thread?33 players transferred out, only 3 remained in the SEC. Two of the 30 (both defensive starters and captains) who didn?t remain in SEC wound up transferring to UNLV and Tulane-both got cut this spring. Draw from it what you think.
