That sucks but this OL is so bad that Van Buren's inexperience won't matter one iota. It will allow him to get experience and benefit us or somebody else next year.
If it’s Worse case scenario and he is done for 24, he has only played 4 games or less so shapen could redshirt and return for 25. Assuming we keep him and van buren, we would return 2 guys with experience vs starting with no guys with experience.
I'm torn on how I feel about this. On one hand it sucks but on the other who would even want to play behind this line? Another thing is we brought him in knowing he was injury prone and apparently paid him decent money as well.
Weird how Van Buren got the snaps after he left. I wasn't impressed with his arm so I wonder what that says about Parson.
Broken scapula. Out for the year. He will be granted a 6th year for medical exemption.
This happened on the pitch out on the goal line?
Yeah I had heard it was bad and that this was likely.
Sheesh. Hate that for him and for us. When nothing was there over the top he had no fear about taking off. And has decent enough wheels to gain some ground. Holds the ball a little too long at times but clearly the best we have. That's an unfortunate blow to the offense.
Wow! I hate that for Shapen but honestly this season is already a wash. I'm surprised Parson didn't get the call though
Good luck to Shapen wherever he decides to play next year. Heckuva 4 game run
somebody needs to be unemployed for that play call and the outcome, Lebby, who?
I thought Van Buren looked decent for a freshman. It seemed like he was trying to play within the offense. Parson has been erratic every time he's gotten in a game
Spivey was screwed, but he wasn't a "normal" double transfer.
The only way I see Shapen leaving is if Van Buren Wally Pipps him.
I don't really mind not redshirting Van Buren. I think Kamario Taylor has a much higher ceiling and could push him out at some point.
Parson I'm guessing will just transfer out.
MVB will start for the rest of this year. If Shapen comes back, he will start in 25. But if not we will go the transfer route. I know the staff was already in contact with Preston Stone at SMU. Of course that was prior to yesterday. It is all setting up for MVB and Kamario Taylor to battle it out for the starting job in 26. MVB has more QB tools than Taylor RIGHT NOW, but Taylor is a better athlete and is built better. Be interesting to see where both are to start the 26 spring.
Maybe I've missed it but what's the deal with MVB stepping in for Shapen and not Parson. Are there other issues behind the scenes we don't know about.
From what I have been told since Lebby got here, they have worked with Parson, yes he still does not have an S on his name folks, and he just cannot grasp the decision making part of this offense. He knows where to go with the ball but it is late. Watch him in warmups and you will see it. He is a half second to full second slower than the other QBs when he is carrying out the fakes. I do not think he is a missed eval. He would have been great for the Leach system, but this is not that system.
I personally think Shapen should just give up football. He was constantly out injured at Baylor and now the same thing here. I'm not even sure I saw any hard contact that should have ended up in a severe shoulder injury yesterday. Shapen will never last an SEC season if he did come back.
Honestly, getting MVB the experience is probably a good thing. The dude followed Lebby here. He will likely be the most experienced QB on the roster unless Shapen comes back. Let him roll.
