Numbers are getting tight. We're being a little picky with most spots.
I don't exactly understand "numbers are getting tight" when we only have 15 commits and so many teams ahead of our 38 or so ranking have filled or almost filled their classes. Are there a lot of very good uncommitted players still available? If so, Genespage certainly doesn't know who we are "targeting" and how many are "warm" toward us. Do we have any hope of a top 25 class? Thanks.

I think this years results will determine what happens with the remainder of our class. I just have a feeling if we do well and look good doing it we could attract a couple more guys to move us up but at the end of the day we will most likely finish towards the bottom of the conference which is pretty normal

It is what it is. My guess is that we are going to hold spots for the portal, and if covid seniors want to come back. We still are limited by the 85 limit.

We are full at QB, RB, and LB. We have 3 OLs committed and are looking for one more from HS. We are looking for one more HS DB. We still need at least 2 more HS DLs as well as one from the portal. We are also looking for one more DB and OL from the portal. After that, it comes down to what's available.

This is very concerning. At your count, this would give us 22 commits, (HS & Portal), and then what's available. Many programs have about filled their classes. Just how many good players are uncommitted? Is NIL hurting us a lot? We are currently ranked 39 on 24/7 and with my non-coach background, I could count only 6 or so teams ahead of us that we should pass if we match or exceed our average player ranking of 87.25 which is where we are now. Hope we are strong on some players we fans don't know about and "what's available" are some diamonds in the rough we turn into very good players.

The state of MS is as devoid of prospects as it has been in a long time, but still, our recruiting right now leaves a lot to be desired for sure.

Per 24/7, we have now dropped to 42. Our ranking per player is .8725. There are only 11 teams ahead of us with a lower per player ranking, but they have more commits. We have several high 3's, but no one who is a .90 or better even though 2 round off as 4 stars. Smith is a .92 something, will be a great get at safety. I sure hope there are targets we don't know about and that we finish strong. Hail State!

And that being said OM has commitments from #'s 1,2, & 5 in this year's MS HS class. I'm sure all 3 were in "we didn't want them anyway" status. They have 11 commits to our 15 but seem to be committed to live or die using the portal. We have dropped to #42, OM #44.

OM just got a commit from a .92 safety from TX. They jumped to #30 with 12 commits to our 15 and we have dropped to #43. Their avg per player is .9017 to our .8725. Smith is visiting again this weekend. Maybe OM getting the TX safety will help with his joining us. He is a 4 star and safety is a position of need for us.Hail State!!

All I know is what I read here or on Genespage. Top targets on Genespage show only Smith, a 4* getting attention from GA & LSU and his Dad played at OM and just 3 others mid-threes or a little better only warm to us. Hope there is a lot we don't know about going on as we are ranked #41 with an average of .8731 per player today. Hail State! Update: Per free article on Genespage, we had 3 players on official visits against AR, 2 MSU commits and a 4 star FL commit, athlete, we are trying to flip.

I may just retire from following recruiting.
I spent way too much time in my youth following it, and its pretty clear that with the portal what you sign may not be on your roster in 18 months, so what is the point.
Plus, Leach has proven he can beat the A&M's of the world despite them being ranked ahead of us by 25 spots.

Yeah I've kinda quit keeping up with it. I used to follow it religiously. We seem to get similar players every year though no matter who the coach is and we've proved we can compete, especially with Leach. That being said I would love to see us fill our rosters with 4 and 5 star players, but the drama keeping up with these kids is just to much. I just look to see who we sign or I'll keep up with a kid if I know him personally. That and the portal is just as important as signing day now and can change a team instantly with portal kids.

True, especially the ways stars are assigned to players now. We have a great defense now made up of two and three star players and a few portal players. Same can be said about our offensive line and our entire team overall.

What's really telling is according to 247, we have like 25 4 star players. 11 of those are Freshmen be it True or RS. If we keep that going, we will have on average what 44ish 4 stars?

I know of a kid right now that is a beast in 6A that never comes off the field and they are 7-0. He's a RB and he plays SS, Kick return, kick coverage...etc. A friend was talking to me about him when I was there for a visit and sent me the links to him and stats this weekend. Runs a 4.55. 6'0 and 185.
Kid had 6 TDs 2 weeks ago. 5 catching it out of the backfield, one pick 6 and he forced a fumble. He's also 3 time state wrestling champ. Last year averaged over 10 yards per carry...etc
HIS 247 ranking is nothing. I mean 100% nothing. They have his height wrong, no photo, weight wrong. Just blank.

I think we are going to hit the portal hard this offseason because we will have a good bit of the offense back except for a few receivers I believe.
Hopefully marks and johnson stay for their senior seasons. We are going to lose a bit on defense so hopefully A$M falls apart and we snag some of their 4 and 5 star recruits they signed because they want to fill in spots on a winning team

We play and try to recruit in a very tough athletic neighborhood. We will only improve by winning more, especially when we are supposed to ( see LSU & KY), adding more people to our recruiting staff, more $ to recruiting budget, strong NIL plan, and an all-in fan base win or lose (and not easy at all with our roller coaster rides). Davis is prob 6' 2" or so and 190 to 200 lb very athletic runner in traffic and pretty much slings it all over the field for IAHS. He has been looked at as a juco first stop QB since his soph year but simply keeps getting better. They have more college level kids in that pipeline there from what I'm told.

He has been looked at as a juco first stop QB since his soph year but simply keeps getting better. They have more college level kids in that pipeline there from what I'm told.
He started getting some notice in the 7 on 7 circuits this summer. He's got a big arm and he's accurate for a HS QB but I'm a little shocked we offered him at this point. Makes me wonder if Leach knows that we may have some departures in the off season.

May? No way Roberson or Greek want to sit behind Will one to two more years and seldom see the field in either blowout or mop up duty in today's portal world.

You just said yourself he won't go there. As I said, they're not a legit threat to us. LSU might be. OM possibly. But I believe we're going to sign him. Vandy would be behind all those.
No, I didn't say he won't go there. I said I didn't think he would when it comes down to the nut cutting but if you're thinking there's no chance of that happening then you simply aren't familiar with his recruitment. This will likely be a grab hat at the U/A game. OM, VU, MSU, LSU, aTm, UGA all in the mix but he's playing his cards close to his chest and like every other big recruit, NIL will be a major factor so we'd better be prepared to step up to the plate if we're going to sign him.

We just offered a receiver from NWR that doesn't even have a 247 profile and I'm pretty sure he's got 0 other offers. We're recruiting him as a safety. It's not a PWO. It's a legit scholarship offer to a player that doesn't even play DB for his team.
I officially throw my hands up with this staff and recruiting. Our DB has been a train wreck since Leach got here. Missed evaluations, reaching on G5 level players, constant shuffling on the board. I don't get it.

Are you a scout or have an evaluation ability? Hughes offered him personally, you know Tony Hughes who 3/4 of this board was adamant we had to keep. Kids develop late-B-Mac, Elgton Jenkins, Taveze Calhoun, JT Gray, AJ Jefferson, Ben Beckwith, De?Runnya Wilson, Kevin Dockery, Willie Evans, Titus Brown, Banks, Dantzler, D?Cam,
Also-kid has better stats than Ayden Williams, the 4* from Ridgeland. And if he had Trey Petty throwing to him would have better stats than Burnside.
But hey let?s a knock a kid we offer when the last few ?top notch WRs? in the state have flopped in the state. Dannis Jackson, Tobias, Markell Pack, Alex Adams, Deion Smith, even Dontea Jones, etc.
Weren?t you the one several years ago saying Harmon wouldn?t be at State or wasn?t a D1 player?

For every Diamond in the rough that worked out for us, I can name 10 that didn't. No one remembers the Jay Hampton's or William Hardrick's that are busts. Typically if we're the only one recruiting a kid, he's not an SEC player. It's nothing personal on the kid. It's just the way it is.
Our DB recruiting the last few years has been absolutely sad. Only a true sunshine troll would say different.
I was all for us taking Harmon given I watched him play in high school. Not sure where you pulled that from. I thought he was an OM lean for a long time, which he was until they cooled off on him. But I never said he wasn't an SEC player.

I’ll trust Hughes and my own eyes don’t disagree. He’s got to have a 40+ vertical if you watch his basketball film, probably the highest on our team. He didn’t play football until his j7nior year and is under recruited. He’s a tremendous athlete.

We've got a shot at the DE from Texas who's legit. We've got to pull Smith at Safety. But we don't have a lot of other upper end talent on the line. Couple LBs were looking at. Juco DL that's a good player. But just not much out there. We've got to hit on the portal hard. We'll be lucky to be top 30 in recruiting and that should be unacceptable.

Is it just me, or do the recruiting networks seem to think less of Mississippi high school products than ever before? When it's November and I see this many 84, 85, 86 rated players something tells be that people aren't doing their due diligence. Some of these players happen to be in line with their rating, but how would they know? Because others have had very good senior film - to the notice of - no one. It's obvious Espn has been conspicuously AWOL in Mississippi the last 2 or 3 cycles. That affects the composite scoring on 247. Now 247 is really dragging. After scouting the very top 4 or 5 players, it's almost as if Mississippi has turned into Kansas. I view these highlight videos, I read the stats, new offers may, or may not roll in, but one thing doesn't change. Interesting...

Well, we drug our feet on some guys, offered guys with no offers, can't get DBs in the boat again, but we just aren't pulling our weight. We don't fill many needs in the portal like we should. We've still got some guys out there but this is going to be a weak class overall no matter. I think we just don't recruit well. They've had one good class. Hopefully that class gets on the field soon.

The problems I have with the current class is not already having 3 or 4 DL guys in the boat, and a legit SEC CB. I'm ok everywhere else at the moment. We desperately need to land Isaac Smith, however.

Since you seem to have some insight, in general, do RBs want to come here and play in this system? Two years ago when they were getting blown up immediately after the catch, I'd have said absolutely not. However, Marks and DJ seem to have come into their own and aren't crash test dummies anymore now.

The problem is that I struggle to see how we get a RB drafted. I think DJ and Marks are really good backs and would be featured backs at several P5 schools. The problem for us is that they simply don't get the opportunity here.

This. Outside of a Derrick Henry there really aren't "feature backs" in the nfl anymore. They have to pass protect and catch the ball now, those are the most important things now, and DJ and Marks both do that well, on top of displaying the running skills they have.

I could go on - but you get the point. These guys ran the ball. DJ and Marks averaged less than 10 carries a game. Its good for tread on the tire, but teams are going to want to know if the guy they are drafting can carry it 200 times in a season, unless you are a speed freak then they don't care.

Breece and Walker do both very well. Cook is used more as a receiving back.
Most teams without a Barkley or Jacobs or Henry have a 1-2 punch with a between the tackles runner and a passing back. I don't think it hurts us, but it does make us more attractive to the latter type.

Yes I cherry picked the receiving back from your list. Point is, if they test above the athletic threshold, they will be drafted if not they'll probably still get a chance on a practice squad. They have plenty of carries on tape, and lots of teams have drafted backs that only ran out of shotgun in college.

We don't have NFL RB talent here. Maybe they make a practice squad. We aren't recruiting SEC RBs much. We go get smallish quick guys that fit the scheme.
