Dallas is going to get hit, just a matter of how much ice. I think everyone is in agreement that we will get somewhere between 2-4 inches of snow. The ice is all over the place though. I have seen as low as .25 inch an as high as 3 inches.

The issue for us, and Mississippi as well, is the temperature. We will not get above freezing until Tuesday. I know most of North Mississippi will not be above freezing until next weekend.

Models still not in good agreement as everything depends on the exact track of the low which is impossible to predict tho far out. A change in track of 5 miles can make a huge difference on who sees what. Right now, the best guess is most of the snow stays more in TN and extreme north MS. The bulk of the state will see mainly freezing rain and sleet. And while some models are kicking out catastrophic amounts, I'm thinking north of 82 will probably see between 0.5-1.5" of ice. Which is still enough to cause widespread power outages and make travel nearly impossible. The added kick in the balls is that after the storm passes temps will plummet so most of what falls will be here for a while.

SVD, does the temperature seems to be the biggest issue in all of this? It seems like it's going to be like 2021 all over again for N MS where they'll get 6-8 inches of snow but the temperature will stay below freezing throughout the week causing everything to just keep refreezing.

Yea we get these kind of storms every 5 years or so but the temperatures after that is going to make it worse along with another storm looking like it's coming in next Wednesday, so this does appear to be a disaster in the works for Southern PA and WV.

Last sentence is all you need to know. Up north the peeps all know to carry tire chains with them because of the icing. And dont even try to go up a icy hill or down one. You will end up in the woods.

Several years ago I attended a training class in Lebanon, NH (Dartmouth). Flew into Manchester and drove up. About a 2 hour drive. It was late April or early May.

Toward the end of the week, the weather forecast predicted a snow storm to drop 4 to 6 inches the night before I was scheduled to drive back to Manchestor.

I was talking to the hotel clerk about it and I guess he could tell this Mississippi boy was nervous about it. He looked at me and said, "Don't worry everyone up here knows how to drive in it." I replied "I not worried about them. They need to be worried about me."

Fortunately, I made it home.

I think NW MS will get winter weather guaranteed. The big question is where will the heavy band of freezing rain set up. Models were shifting it north up into the Memphis area, but some have been trending it back SE more into the 82 corridor. If that happens, the Memphis area will probably be more of a sleet / snow mix. One thing for sure, where ever that band of freezing rain sets up is going to be in for a bad time. 1" ice accumulations look likely and it may be more. Where that is will all depend on the exact track of the low. For every mile north or south it tracks that moves that line one mile.

Woke up to limbs snapping and falling out of trees at 5:30am in the mid delta. Lost power soon after. Glad I don’t have big trees close to my house. Had to go to my dads to work on his generator this morning and overall it seems to be more trees than power lines down. Thank goodness the precipitation is over because much more and a lot more lines would be coming down. Think we are around 75-1.0” of ice accumulation right now so these lines are probably on the brink.

Edit to add: seems we have a couple substations with damage.

Keep in mind that unlike most winter events where it snows or ices and then 2 days later it's 60 outside, we are in for a period of sustained cold for the next 7-10 days minimum. Large parts of western and north MS will be without power and heat that entire time. The true effects of this storm are just now beginning.

No icing down here on the coast. As for power lines there has been a concentrated effort the last few years to strengthen the power lines on main hub lines and to cut back trees that might be blown down on lines during hurricanes. We had a bad ice storm down here last year and we had no major lines downed due to ice or falling trees.
