Auburn has a better town than Starkville. A hard truth-Starkville is the worse town in the SEC.

Auburn itself is not even as good as Starkville but they have Opelika that essentially is right next door that makes a big difference. I mean Opelika has a Target so there you go.

No sir. Tuscaloosa is worse

As someone in their mid twenties, no it?s not. Tuscaloosa?s bar scene is better and their downtown area is pretty neat too.

Nothing in Auburn either.

Was just in Auburn this week. Auburn trumps Starkville with little doubt. And Auburn is an hour and forty-three minutes from Atlanta. Starkville is four hours and twenty minutes.

Auburn has Skybar. Starkville has Two Brothers. It is not even comparable how much better Skybar is. Skybar might be the best bar in the SEC

Galettes is literally better than any bar in Starkville by a mile. The Houndstooth, Avenue Pub, Innisfree, etc. All better than anything Starkville has.

It all comes down to program prestige, resources, success, NFL production and, above all, money. Period.

Calling BS. My money is no good if there is nowhere in town to spend it. These players are not bored house wives ordering Amazon. You’d have to be crazy to think that rich 20 something don’t want to flash some bands at a bar/club.

Exactly, all this stuff is secondary. 2-10 is the big issue with no upgrades on the coaching staff. Either that or only football players go to bars while basketball and baseball players stay in and study.

Starkville is the typical college small town. Plenty of frat parties to crash and some good eating in Starkville. Short drive to Jackson if some miss nightly shootings that is closer than Atlanta.

Lived in Starkville for 4 years and lived in Auburn for 4 years.

Auburn is substantially better and there is far more to do in the town and close by. I know Starkville has added quite a bit since I left but even so, Auburn is just better by quite a bit.

Idk if you were in college a long time ago or what but this is not remotely accurate. You take a kid to the Library or Skybar or Alcove and then bring them to Starkville and tell them they get to go to the district and have a beer at the Bin that closes at midnight then go home. Does not translate well. Closest we ever had was Cowbells which obviously is long gone now. There is nowhere to club until 3am in Starkville.

Covid killing Cowbells was a death knell to Starkville's aspirations to be anything more than a town stuck in the 1940s and proud of it.

Kids want fun. Starkville doesn't have fun. It's telling when everyone keeps talking about bars as the thing to do. There's a million and one other things to do in bigger cities than just go to bars you drunks.

These kids will find a way to drink after 1 if they want to. Unless your Kylin Hill and go on a "I'm gonna get thrown out of a house party in every house in the Retreat" streak.

Yep. People in this thread have their heads in the sand if they think otherwise. I wasn't exaggerating in my earlier post for anyone who hasn't live in Starkville for a while. The bars close at midnight. MIDNIGHT. you have security guards yelling at 11:35 for last call and then they stop selling drinks. What do the kids do after that? Nothing, because there is nothing. You go to bed or you go to a friends house and sit in the living room and play all American rejects and funnel beers. Starkville kills MSU and seems to have no desire to come into the 21st century.

I remember seeing Dak and J. Rob at Cowbells during last call around 2:45 multiple times. Even that's gone now.

It's bad when you have the worse bar scene in the SEC and then further handcuff yourself by making it close at 11:35. I mean, what do people think these kids do on their visits? See the stadium and then go to their hotel at 8:30? They go out and check out the nightlife. I can't imagine how insanely difficult it has to be for our coaches to have a kid go to Skybar Friday night with a private area paid for and stocked by Freeze and then come to Starkville and have a pulled pork taco with the coaches then have nothing to do.

Fair enough.

But to the point about Starkville. It's crazy that there is a higher percentage of things to do after 7 pm that are "Bar" than Madison, Wisconsin.

More bars here, but i can go axe throwing, i can go roller derby, i can go casual skate, i can go laser tag, i can go bowling, i can go to an arcade (even a dave & buster's), i can go participate in a multitude of different casual sports (soccer, volleyball, softball, flag football, ultimate, disc golf, etc.), i can go walk around several different scenic trails, i can go do lake activities, i can go to the mall...

I can go on and on. Point is - if you aren't a person who watches TV all night after work, goes to State games on Saturday,go to church in the morning on Sunday - lunch after - late service after napping watching TV... starkville isn't your town and is not advertising for you to sow your roots long term.

I agree to an extent, however Ole Miss has none of those issues and they don?t have any of that stuff either. They have a nationally known bar and party scene. When you are 18-21 you want a fake and to go do that on the weekends. Now imagine being one of the most popular people on campus and a million dollars in your pocket. You want to be able to party and pull women there. Starkville just doesn?t offer that.

Lol, if you need to be in a club until 3 am to get a chick you've got bigger problems. A club closing doesn't stop any after hours activities. The biggest reason for this is women. Oxford has a much larger number of women out on the town than Starkville on a Thurs, Fri, Sat night. It makes all the difference. It brings larger crowds, which = more business and eventually, later business hours. Starkville is bro town where you go to a bar and the ratio is like 4/1 guys to gals.
