Where is all this money coming from in Alabama? Coal?
I really hope they get this nil stuff fixed/ caped sooner than later. I know that the old days are gone but I'm more discouraged every day for the future of college sports. Things move so slow and the longer it goes on the harder it will be to fix

It's never being fixed. Sorry if you have that as a hope.

It's a paid ESPN article, can't open it. What number are we? Wherever we are, Jans actually did good recruiting the portal this year so I'm not really complaining

Alabama cares about basketball unlike MSU.

When they got rid of their Stansbury, Mark Gottfried, they replaced him with the hottest mid major name at the time in Anthony Grant. Before he could run the program into the ditch, they replaced him with a former NBA player/coach and before he could run it into the ground they replaced him with the hottest mid major coach in Nate Oats who is recruiting anybody he wants.

After we held onto Stans for 2 seasons too long, we replaced him with Clemson's 3rd assistant who we allowed to run the program completely into the ditch before we revived Grandpa Ben from retirement. We finally got a hot name from the mid major circuit, we just happened to grab one that doesn't croot all that well.

It's just hs classes. Not entire people brought in.

On3 had the transfer class Jans brought in as 4th in the country.

Since OP posted a link that's behind a paywall, I'll help those of you who don't have ESPN+. Summary, we're no better than 8th in the SEC, and we're not mentioned at all (it's only the top 25). It's also only HS classes, does not include transfer portal.

1. Duke
2. Rutgers (what?!)
3. Alabama
4. Baylor
5. UNC
6. Arizona State
7. Arkansas
8. UConn
9. Miami
10. LSU
11. Michigan State
12. Missouri
13. Georgia
14. Texas
15. Kansas
16. Georgetown
17. Arizona
18. Creighton
19. Notre Dame
20. TCU
21. Purdue
22. Syracuse
23. Maryland
24. UCLA
25. Auburn

Yeah, Rutgers got 2 of the top 3 (I think) players.

Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper.

That's just HS players. We brought in a top flight transfer class. Top 5 by some services. That is where Jans is going to recruit heavily. Gone are the days of relying on HS talent, especially in college BB. I mean take Bama, they bring in the number 2 or 3 class depending on publication. But they return 2 or 3 starters from last year and bring in 4 transfers. MAYBE 1 of those Freshman will play and I'd be willing to bet 3 transfer out.

HS recruiting ranking is all but irrelevant now tbh. Especially in basketball.

Stans had NIL money to spend. Certainly not like the blue bloods but he was lucky enough to have boosters that would compete with Bama's basketball boosters. Now that legal avenues have opened up to pay players, going to be a lot harder for us to compete on money.

Exactly. Stands bought some players and our boosters did some good things back in the day. Now that it’s open and legal he would be a non-factor. Everybody’s pocketbook is too big now. He couldn’t do anything Jan can’t do

Agree, if it's not a Top 75 type player in HS you are better off emphasizing the portal.

Jans has done a great job in the portal this season. Only real concern is at the 5 spot.

Yep, if only our baseball coach could manage to have similar success.

portal ranking

Jans got some talent out of the portal! He went and got some scorers to add to Hubbard and Cam. This is his most talented team from top to bottom. We have a chance to really make some noise this season.

Bwahaha. Lemonis looks like a fish flopping around on the bank in portal recruiting!

Yea, I thought when we got Lemonis that recruiting was supposed to be his thing and that he had put together the better Louisville teams for McDonnell? Our roster is currently very thin on talent for someone that is supposed to be a big time recruiter.

Jans caught a lot of heat when the portal first opened, so I'm not freaking out about lemonis yet. I'm sure it'll pick up

I'm with the fish flopping part. What quality does Lemo have that attracts a player? I do not think he can properly evaluate a player, regardless of age. He's still on the clock.
