I readily admit after losing 2 to AP earlier in the year I agreed that Lemonis should be let go at the end of the year. I also can see how he?s not to blame for a lot of our 1 loss SEC games. He did a good job getting our guys to compete and win enough so we get to the post season. I personally think we should let go of Geaut and get someone else, but that?s me. I like him and I hope he has the best off season in the portal this year because we will need it.

With minimum success to this point. He needs to pull a 2014.

Definitely need a fresh voice as hitting coach. Should encourage him to move on.

Power has to be a focus in the portal
If he keeps GoTro it’s on him results-wise next Spring

Honestly it looks like their season played out a lot like ours. Their Friday night guy went down for the season early on like Dohm. The put up some wins against some strong teams but also dropped games they probably should've won. Obviously the conference competition is inferior so instead of vying for a hosting spot they were vying for a regional spot and came up empty handed
Will be interesting to see how Haire does next year if he sticks with them

Campbell switched conferences, we may hear from them
Every 8 to 10 years now. Does not mean Haire is suddenly a bad coach, just that they have to win a bigger and more competitive conference to sniff a NCAA bid as a conference champ.

Haire is overrated and I’ve never been sold on him. This board developed a fascination with him like they did with Napier

I agree but you know that's not going to happen. He kept Foxhall a year too long and as bad as we've performed in some clutch situations the past couple of years, it's still a helluva lot better than Foxhall's group was performing.

Very different when the coach in question is coming off of a National Assistant of the Year Award. Had it not been for that I think Foxhall would have been gone after the 2022 season.
Our offensive metrics are very meh this year. I'm not looking or hearing anything about Gautreau being fired but at the same time if we hit poorly in the regional and get knocked out it wouldn't completely shock me to see us going in a different direction.

My concern is why hasn?t Gotro been able to help Hines out of his slump? He has had plenty of time. What are we paying this guy for anyway?

Because contrary to the belief of most on this board a lot of times there is nothing a coach can do about it. The player has to make that mental change, or change in approach and commit to it. Doesn't matter how much 1 on 1 training they do, what advice they give, etc. it's all up to the player.
The player can even master it in the cage and in BP - and then revert to form when they step out onto the field.

Except it's not JUST Hines...or DJ...our batters have had a tendency to go listless at the plate for years, and his "let em figure it out" philosophy ain't working.

If they aren't listening to Gautreau that's an issue too. Because it's way beyond one guy.

Usually I would agree with this, but pitching has similarities and our pitching is night and day different.

Good choice
And by the way Duke has a hitting coach named Eric Tyler who I would hope he would bring too.
Similar to the hitting analyst position I have described before.

We've had a lot of guys that probably should have been developed more over the years. Kam James and Kellum Clark come to mind immediately.
With hitters in college IMO you should (in general) see a natural progression of development from their freshman year to the junior and senior years.
It seems like too many of our hitters are the same guy they were as a freshman their junior year.

I think there’s a 50-50% chance we move on from Lemo next year. Just depends on the portal. She can be a fickle mistress. But we still have a regional to win this year.

Our freshman class this year has had a TON of injuries. Some of them could surprise.
Nolan Stevens we have seen some and Luke Dotson and Dylan Cupp. Same with Ethan Pulliam. Our fans haven't seen Makhai Grant yet- he was our top pitching recruit last year and would have contributed this year. Same for Rives Reynolds. Add in some of the recruits from the upcoming class and I think we will be really strong in 2026.
I would definitely hit the portal hard if I was Lemonis for 2025 though.

If you are one of the inner circle guys, you are blowing my mind with the 50-50 talk.
As just a maroon citizen, Lemons looks 95% to return if Parker is still on board. If he snags a hitting coach, that could give him new life. Especially if he conquers Charlottesville and Fayetteville.
The offensive loses are big, would be bigger with proper maximization. But players have to be replaced in college baseball. Tough to lose a Ferris Winner. Hujsak is a big loss. Hines is a ton of experience to lose.
But you have Stevens, McKenzie, Reynolds, Cupp, Pulliam and Highfill as Sophomores/Red Shirt Sophomores that you expect to be much better than Freshman performance.
Then you need some Portal performers in the Ledbetter, Yeager, Lowe, Hujsak, and Kruger mold. Don't expect to outbid Tennessee or be more sexy than Vitello, but seems not every player wants to wear that ugly Orange uniform.

It is telling that we say a HC is safe if he can keep a particular assistant.
I think though that Brobi wan meant "next season" in his post.
I don't see how Lemonis fires a hitting coach, and recruits in the portals for power hitters at the same time.

Just my personal guess. He will be back next year. But I don’t think he’s guaranteed the year after next barring an Omaha run. 3-4 on bad years won’t cut it, but I say we don’t worry about next year until next year. Right now we are in a regional and still in the race for a natty. No matter how improbable that may be.

We better give Parker a big raise if we want to keep him. Big money pockets like Bama and Auby have seen what he has done over here and is always a threat to get him. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Not sure I'd give GoTro another year and I love the guy. Sometimes it just gets stale no matter how good a coach is. I'll also add that you can be the best hitting coach but it's up to players to execute. You can have the best game plan and preach the right approach but if guys get wide eyed and pull happy it's on them at some point. I'm pretty conflicted on whether or not it's time to move on. I guess you always have to look at what you have and ask, who (realistic option) would do a better job?

In 2024
277 in the conference; with 189 Runs/30 games = 6 Runs/Game; 45 HR
273 overall hitting; with 200 Runs/29 games = 6.8 Runs/Game; 28 HR (versus the poor OOC competition)
Offense is not that good, but business as usual in recent years. Mid offense.
In 2021
266 in the conference; with 183 Runs/30 games = 6 Runs/Game; 33 HR
278 overall hitting; with 294/38 games = 7.7 Runs/Game ; 27 HR (regionals, CWS included added 15 HR) for 42 HR OOC total
I think the Dude Effect lifted MSU in that crazy super regional vs Notre Dame. Plus that team had legends on the roster.
In 2023
268 in the conference; 182 Runs/30 games = 6 Runs/Game ; 53 HR (solo HR specialists)

I agree. I think if we keep him we at least need to hire an offensive analyst that can mask Gautreau's weaknesses as a hitting coach.
We hired an elite pitching coach after we finished one game over .500 on the season and won 9 games. I definitely think we can pull Austin Peay's hitting coach Jon Littell or Duke's hitting coach. We may even be able to get the Austin Peay guy as an analyst if we pay enough.

We're going to extend him. We have to for program health so we can recruit well. Part of Ole Miss's dip in recruiting was when they got mad at Bianco and didn't extend him after 2021 I think it was.
Now that doesn't mean give him a crazy buyout or contract.
But whatever we do with Lemonis will be determined how the postseason goes forward.
