Good News!
SELA stayed in the FCS poll at #17 after their 48-7 loss to MSU. And Mercer ranked #24 after holding The Johnny Rebs to just 73 points on Saturday.

If we're gonna play garbage opponents, I'd rather play an in-state team to help them out financially. I'd prefer actually play a team with a pulse

Apparently these two opponents are Top teams in the next level down, far ahead of any SWAC school. We both played two powerhouse FCS schools!

Here's a question.
A lot of folks complain about playing in state teams in basketball and baseball because they hammer our RPI. But in football they want us to play them.
Is the only difference some arbitrary RPI number that plays into our perceived strength? Because I really don't see the difference.
We should play non P5 teams in football that are beatable, local, but not necessarily in state.

Unless the playoffs expand, RPI doesn't hurt us. If we were worried about RPI, we wouldn't play FCS teams
ETA... 1 game a year in baseball is fine vs a swac school. We should never play them in bball

We’ve finished in the top 15 going 5-3 in the SEC. It wouldn’t matter if we racked up a non con win vs Starkville Academy. It just doesn’t really matter in football.
Like 7 said it matters in hoops. Those 3 SWAC games were the reason we were playing in Dayton instead of in the real tourney.

You nailed it. They kill our RPI in basketball and baseball. No such thing in football. Maybe there should be to settle bowl order.

Jackson State, Alcorn, and Mississippi Valley on rotation! I would love it!

Don't want to mess with North Dakota State. They sometimes beat decent FBS opponents.

We are tentatively scheduled to play Alcorn again in two years, though who knows if that game will happen if the SEC goes to a 9 game schedule. Do not believe we will ever schedule Valley because their APR is usually so bad that it would not count as a win toward bowl eligibility. We were going to play them during the Mullen era and had to drop them for that reason.
I was told that Jackson State will only agree to play us if we do a home and home with a game in Jackson, which would be a fireable offense if anyone in our AD ever agreed to that.

1 I will never go to Starkville to watch us play Alcorn/etc. I'm ready for us to stop those games. Just a home game I pay for and won't ever go to.
2 yeah if we have to play in Jackson I might give my tickets up. No way I'm going there and risking my life/ vehicle/...

I hope the SEC goes to 9 games after next year. Will be a better quality product for the cost of seeing the games in person. Saw where we may be scheduling UNA (Yes, Florence State of Florence, AL), in the future. That's, really worth your Bulldog Club dues, season tickets/ticket fees, gasoline, lodging, food, NIL, and time to watch another 11:00 AM kickoff.

It’s bad enough that we are agreeing to go to Hattiesburg. That’s just about a fireable offense in itself. I don’t mind playing them but they need to come to Starkville. They need us a whole lot and we don’t need them at all. Playing an away game at Jackson State is just not anywhere near the realm of reality. Or it better not be.

I?d be fine if we went back to the Covid schedule of playing nothing but SEC teams honestly. That was way more exciting.

No. Schedule 3 guaranteed wins and 1 probable win every year for non-Conf. If State schedules hard non-Conf just to make you want to go watch them get their butts whipped by a quality
