I wasn't aware the Marine Corps had a transfer portal or you could opt out at Boot Camp. We glad you decided to stick around ****

Just kidding bruh. But seriously ... I don't think you had any alternatives but to stay committed.

I saw several quit. Some refused to train and were processed out... A few took their own lives...

    You could definitely "quit"....

Didn't know they let you go without extremely extenuating circumstances. Wasn't in the Marines myself but have family members who were. Never really heard of that.

I guess relative to the other option ... that's like always an option to someone anywhere if they wanna take it.

Yeah, they (the Corps) nor any other organization on the planet can "force" you to do anything... they'll extend you, make it worse than actual bootcamp, but they can't "make you be a Marine".... that has to be chosen and earned.

The things is they can keep you there for up to 180 days. That's 180 days of hellish like prison. The fastest way off Parish Island was to graduate. Regardless almost everyone has that OH **** moment there.

we started with 82 recruit and graduated 57. Broken bones and injuries took many of them. We had one guy the 2nd day threaten to take his own life. The Drill Instructor went over to the window, opened it and said "JUMP YOU PIG". He did not jump but a few weeks later he slit his wrist. When it happened the same Drill Instructor said to him, "Oh you ****ed up now". We never saw that recruit again.

A recruit in a neighboring series tried to hang himself from the 3rd floor, outside stairwell with bed sheets he'd tied together... the knot came apart and the fall killed him...

The next day, one of our DIs gave us a class on how to properly tied bed sheets together....

    Those were the days......

saw the exact same thing from Ft Jackson .... and Jack, I had the exact same thought that first night ... but you're right -it's a commitment that was carefully considered well in advance
OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Ole Miss campus police ask students to behave at future baseball games following a recent incident.
The university said students were reportedly throwing rocks at Georgia baseball players during last weekend's series.
