I'll ask again: Point taken. Has the administration or booster network become that disorganized when it comes to recruiting, or has past glory obscured their view of what it takes to be competitive in the current college football landscape, not unlike what Coach Norm was saying?

Genuine question: what's the problem at USC?

Sure you have to deal with taxes.
Sure you have to deal with regulations.
But overall, being a millionaire in Southern California is probably pretty damn nice. The weather is definitely better.
Most of these coaches want to win a championship, and for that, LSU is still a better job. For a normal person (which probably means "not suited to be a great college football coach"), USC should be a better job.

As a Texans fan, As long as you keep Bill away from player trade decisions, he's a good coach. (the Hopkins "trade" is the worst deal in Pro sports history)

They got absolutely hammered by the NCAA. That was probably the last time the NCAA will ever be able to hand out something like that. They were down to something like 40 scholarship players at one time. It takes time, even for them, to recover from that. They have been playing safe since and Helton was part of that. This firing basically says they are getting serious again.

Too risky here..... James Franklin, Mullen, Wittingham, Peterson.

keep it simple USC.... FWIW I'm cheering for USC here because Alabama dominating recruiting in California isn't good.

USC has too many distractions that makes it a boatload of money. It is focused on its medical facilities that are profitable. Hollywood gives it profits. Engineering research and development gives it profits. Overseas investments give USC profits. Real Estate acquisitions in South Central LA make huge profits for the university. Athletic are not seen as a profit maker worthy of great effort. USC will rake in money if the World Cup or Olympics come to LA because of basic ownership of the Coliseum. To put it in a USC perspective, football is low on its priorities, too much money making elsewhere. The coaching change happened because a huge money holder affiliated with the university issued a directive and USC complied.

A few things. One I remember how bad of an OC he was at Colorado. Two. Mahomes ain't walking through that door. Three WCO tree is his background tough sell there . Four I go back to those Colorado days maybe why no NFL job has taken him. Just a thought here

I?m trying to think through how many NFL OC types that have MVP caliber QBs have ended up working out well lately. Most of the ones I can think of were humbled pretty quickly.

Probably even fewer where the HC is also the OC. Might have to look more closely at that soon.

Nothing like having to walk through piles of Sh** or past skid row when you want to take the family for a nice downtown stroll or better yet sitting in traffic for 17 hours to get 12 miles down the road for a nice dinner out.***

Guess it depends on what you enjoy, give me an outdoor setting with actual trees, pastures, ag fields, lakes, rivers and small town people any day over a city built on a desert filled with 100K plus homeless people living in tent towns in a city that allows people to steal from stores as long as the dollar amount is under a certain number.

Leftwich is interesting and you?d have to dig deep on that one. Arians is really high on him and gives him a ton of praise. But Arians is another offensive coach so you have to figure out if it?s him or Leftwich really doing the OC work. He also has Tom Brady.

I?m betting Carson Palmer can help them out there since Leftwich I believe was his qb coach a year or 2 with Arizona.

Would be horrendous if they hired some one without head coaching experience

There are no piles of Sh** in the immediate area of USC. The article shows the gentrification of that area. Simply, affiliates take a freeway to campus and away from campus. Those on campus will have first class accommodations. The last thing students want is an outdoor setting, ag fields, trees, pastures etc? The less fortunate in LA are not in the immediate USC area. The beach is what is happening not downtown.

They are going to have to start acting like a top ten job if they want a top coach. They have not been paying any better than most Top 30 programs and that's in Southern California where 2 BR house can cost a million bucks with HOA's and high tax rates.

They would have to pay 8-10 million a year to be comparable to 6-7 million in lots of places just to justify the cost of living out there. They pay less than most SEC schools. You can buy a million dollar home in most college towns and get a nice place with a view. Out there, it gets you an apartment that comes with $1,000 a month HOA with a street view.

So, no they are not a top ten program until they start acting like one but they could be. They are the premier west coast program with lots of talent surrounding them. I think someone said that every school in contention for a national title this year has a QB from California. That's nuts.

You are sooooo right in your statement. The quarterbacks you stated are not just in California, they lived within a 30 mile radius of the University? Ouch!

He would be an outstanding hire. I just don't think he passes the splash test. I would also worry about recruiting under him.
