    Breakdown

Let me break this game down using some stats from the past 4 years vs. this year.

    Since 2014:
    Won 8.25 games/year
    Avg 74 plays/gm
    44% pass plays
    56% run plays
    74 plays a game/avg

Since 2015 and 2017 were outliers with the % of run to pass % I threw each out and redid the avgs below:

Threw out 15 because we threw it 54% of time that year
    Pass 40.5%
    Run 59.5%
    75 plays a game/ avg

2017 we ran the ball 64% of the time so the avg taken last year out is:
    Pass 46.5%
    Run 53.5%
    73.5 plays a game/avg

So far this year our avg is in line with those numbers:
    Pass 43%
    Run 57%
    67 plays a game/avg

Now for the KY game it flipped:
    pass 53%
    Run 47%
    Ran 60 total plays

But you have to dig deeper into those stats to see the real picture. KY had 3 sacks that count as rush plays so that drops the avg more:
    Pass 58.3%
    Rush 41.7%

This number could be lower depending on if a few rushes were actually pass plays that Fitz just had to tuck it and run with it.

These two teams were basically the same teams that played against each other last year but with two completely different outcomes. Last year the game was 10-7 with about a minute remaining in the half and Fitz broke a big run to put us up 17-7 going in at half and we ended up winning 45-7. KY had a total of 260 total yards of offense on 59 plays with a top of 25:11. State had a total of 441 yards total offense on 75 plays with a top of 34:49. We ran the ball 65% of the time against them last year.

Now let?s look at this year?s game:
It was 7-7 going into half this year. KY had a total of 300 yds total offense last weekend, just 40 more than the year before. We only had 201 yards of total offense, a whopping 240 less yards. KY ran 61 plays with a top of 30:57 to our 60 plays with a top of 29:03.

The difference between the two games is very simple. Mullen committed to the run last year and ran it right at the DE that was blowing up the field. He did this because the guy was giving us fits in the first half last year. But this year Joe goes all PlayStation coach and wants to Check at the line every single time to what he thinks the d is giving him. Our starting 11 and KY starting 11 isn?t much different talent wise, but our d depth is a whole lot deeper than KY, thus giving more reason to RTDF and run it quick wearing down the d. Of the 45 we scored in 2017, 21 came in the 4th quarter after we had worn the d out.

In conclusion we need to run the mfer football and avg 75 plays a game with us snapping the ball before 10 seconds left on the play clock.

Great stats and all, but you do realize that we averaged a whopping 2 yards/carry and were consistently behind the chains because of stupid penalties, right?

Running more does not necessarily equate to running it better. Continuing to run against 10 and 11 man boxes would’ve been the definition of insanity.

Every presnap penalty came after a check and the play clock under 7 seconds. And coming from experience T rarely jump on running plays because you don?t have to worry about dropping to get in front of a rush end.

Bottom line is we played way to slow and allowed their d to stay fresh.

They never had a 10 or 11 man box. You are just exaggerating. By about the 3rd quarter they had backed off and gave us some run boxes but Moorhead not only didnt commit to it because he thinks he can outsmart everyone, but he let UK believe they could beat us. And that is half the battle in itself.

There is no formula or stat that will win you games in this league. It is who is tougher and meaner. Who can run it and who can stop it. Period. Dr. Moorhead better have learned that saturday because if we look lost again Im afraid it may be pink slip time by november
