I didn't ask specifically about ADA Access because that wasn't the topic of our meeting but I got the impression that if you needed help these were your only two options and if you already had a parking pass closer to the stadium you were on your own. The thing to me is why wasn't this communicated prior to 10 am Saturday morning because I read every email they send out and I even read the stuff in the ticket book just to see what changes they were making and all that was news to me. The was a 82 year old gentleman who came Friday to set up his motorhome and was unprepared for how un level his spot was and when he found out that he had no way to get to the stadium other than walk, he announced to us that he was going home in his car because there was no way he nor his wife could make the walk. He would come back Sunday afternoon and pick up his RV after the lot cleared out. Another gentleman gave away his two Club Level tickets and watched it at his RV because he was unable to make the walk. There was a couple of legal private golf carts in the lot and we tried to figure out how to shuttle these people to the stadium but we couldn't get near the stadium on a private cart because they have moved the barricades even further away from the stadium at least in that direction.
Thanks. Similar to the Left field Lounge situation, the private cart situation became a level of potential liability that legitimately causes concern about pedestrians near the stadium getting seriously injured. I do agree there needs to be a type of cart shuttle service from the point the stadium bollards up to the gate for people who are handicapped and legit need assistance. I know that in 2001, I was very grateful my pregnant wife got a ride on a cart coming out of the game.
The actual issue is that as crowds grow, parking literally must move outward from the stadium. RV's just dont have a spot next to the stadium anymore. Those good old days are gone forever with the popularity of the junction tents. Actually ALL of the buses on Saturday were capbable of moving ADA customers on their route, but the routes from the south dropped at Newell Grissom and the routes from the north dropped at Giles and Old Main Academic.
There is no viable answer that doesn't come with liability to the issue of elderly people having to walk long distances to get to games.
