Not really. Sobotka has closer stuff. He could be the guy tomorrow and I would be totally fine with that. I think the off-season plan was probably to get a closer thinking we would have a good year this year and build on that in the offseason.

Now we are mid August leading the division and we are seeing some of the deficiencies. No true closer (never was a huge fan of Vizcaino even when healthy). Not enough bullpen arms. No game changer at catcher. No power bench bat and the guy we traded for in Duvall is awful.

I think in the end we miss the playoffs. The national league is deep this year in terms of quality teams. 10 teams over .500. It's a tough league and every team has some good and bad. We've had some struggles hitting good teams enough to win. We need our starting pitching to continue being good and Newcomb to buck up and quit sucking. The bullpen has to get it together. Albies has got to start swinging it better from the left side. I think we miss the wild card by a game or 2 but will have some very fun and exciting games down the stretch to propel us for next year.

The Braves Bullpen is dogshit. The worst possible time for a balk by Brach, after his failure the other night.

    A Rockies sweep coming up.

Pretty pathetic 4 game stretch. Should've at least gone 2-2. 44-48 against teams not named the Mets or Marlins is pretty telling.

When you scoring 2-3 runs a game vs Rockies, you will lose... a lot. Offense has a huge part in this sweep

True, but I think there was a late lead in 2 of the 4 games, and the bullpen blew both. If the Braves somehow do well enough down the stretch to make the playoffs, they will not be able to win close games. They won't score many runs vs the best pitching.

The Cubs are 71-52, three games ahead of the Braves in overall NL standings. Then here's teams 2-7:

    Braves: 68-55
    DBacks: 69-56
    Phillies: 68-56
    Rockies: 68-56
    Brewers: 69-57
    Cardinals: 68-57

All within 1/2 game of each other. Then the Dodgers are only one game behind the Cards at 67-58. It's all pretty even in the NL this year. Every team has their deficiencies - Braves have their bullpen. It's good to be in the race.....one where we could have the best record in the league or just as easily miss the playoffs entirely. Should be fun to watch.

The braves' weakness is the NL West at home. Stolen from chop country...

"Atlanta finishes with a 5-13 home record vs. the NL West in 2018:

    Colorado (0-4)
    Arizona (1-2)
    Los Angeles (1-3)
    San Francisco (0-3)
    San Diego (3-1)"

    ...

Thank God, we're done with them

The sad part is that the San Fran and Colorado series took place when fans were the most excited about the season only to see us get swept at home.

You can do this with a lot of teams.

The D-Backs are 53-51 against teams not named the Padres or Marlins. And that's the 1st team I checked.

ETA: Indians are 37-41 against teams not named the Orioles, Royals, White Sox, or Tigers.

This is just how it goes. Beating up on bad teams is part of what good teams do.

Bryse Wilson debuting tonight. Another great 20-year-old prospect.

    Flaherty DFA'd.

Can Adam Frazier go 5 for 5 and the Braves still win? I would love to see that.

Nice response by the braves after a frustrating weekend. Got to make hay this weekend with 4 games vs marlins.

Clutch hits with RISP are not happening like they were a couple weeks ago. I like the young pitchers, though

    Braves

4.5 game lead with 31 games to go. The braves have the largest division lead in the NL. I'm starting to get excited.

Really hope the braves can snag josh Donaldson for the stretch run

We're the best team in the division, have been all year. It will be hard for us not to win it.
