So why is his next best offer Memphis?

Is it so you can relish in "calling it" and get to say I told you so?

I don't think we are stressing about him. Most people are just saying he needs to get in the boat if he doesn't want to end up at Memphis. I can't think of any other recruit that we are on right now whose best offer outside of us is Memphis that has not committed, so I think you're wrong there. By this time in the recruiting process, most people have figured out whether or not they have the juice to string schools along. He's not Jeff Simmons, and apparently he thinks he is.

Thank you for actually answering my question instead of being snarky and holier than thou.

You need to chill. The kid isn't a super star. He's not a game changing guy that's going to stretch the field. And those kinds of receivers are pretty much a dime a dozen. We've got a team full of them now. But he's a local kid and we'd prefer to take the local kid instead of a comparable kid from out of state. It's not hard to understand. But if he waits around, that spot will get filled by the kids that are willing to commit. Then he'll be at USM or Memphis. He's got a P5 offer and he's about to piss it away. You hate to see a MS kid do that, again.
On another note, our WR recruiting is lacking still. People can say what they want, but kids aren't looking at us much. Whether it's because of the offense we've run in the past or being unsure of the new offense, or whatever, they're just not looking at us except as a backup plan. We need kids to stretch the field, and we haven't gotten those. Possession/average slot guys we can find.

Chill? I'm really not doing anything. I agree with everything you said besides him being local mattering. I was just asking a question.

If he doesn't want on board then let him squander his chance and focus on a super star or some one who will actually stretch the field. He's just taking up space otherwise.

I'm not defending his decision to string us along. I'm saying pull the rug and give it to some one else and quit wasting the time and acting like we are desperate for him to commit right this second if he is a dime a dozen. Local or not. You don't win games by putting local kids first if they are just mediocre.

Either way, I'm not trying to argue an opinion in the recruiting thread. I appreciate all of the leads on what is going on with these kids as I don't have time to really actually keep up with all of it. Just tired of seeing "Pruitt needs to commit NOW!" as if he is a 5* or we are on the eve of signing day or he couldn't flip that commitment at any point between now and signing day.

Is that productive saying things like that about a prospective football player? I remember a year ago or so there were comments like "Why can't we get receivers as good as Memphis?"

You prefer local guys first, because this state is our main recruiting territory and it gives you an "in" with the next big prospect from Noxubee (or any other school in this state).

The main reason he needs to commit is so our coaches can get a definitive idea of where we stand is this class and plan accordingly. They need to decide what our priorities are and where we are going to commit resources. He has a commit-able offer out there and if he isn't going to commit we need to pull it and offer it to someone else.

I understand all that, but this guy has an opportunity of a lifetime. Why should we rush him or he rush his decision?
If he is looking, so are we. Just leave it at that. If he misses the boat, well he missed it. I am sure he understands the situation, just like our coaches have contingencies based on this situation.

In my eyes, if he isn't all in now then he won't be all in just because he has verbally committed and a preferred offer comes along (if there is one over ours). Zero security with his pledge at this point if he hasn't already hopped on it so just plan on looking elsewhere so we aren't caught flat footed and then it is actually to late and we have to settle. The offer is there, he knows it, we know it, now send the resources elsewhere.

I guess the other side of starting to look elsewhere is that if you start recruiting a kid you could do just the opposite of "getting a local guy for future recruitment purposes" and putting a sour taste in the high school head coaches mouth if you just leave that kid hanging.

I'm disappointed right now that my homeboy Dannis Jackson is just not showing us any love. I'm originally from Sumrall and we just had Jordan Thomas our TE from Sumrall get drafted, yet Jackson is snubbing his nose at us. Not liking it.
