Being a pitching coach and being a head baseball coach are totally different- like being an offensive coordinator and a head football coach.
Pitching coaches don't get carte blanche on managing the pitching staff. Sure, they have input but the final call is the head coach's.

Here's what I predict will happen. We will start Gordon off in the 9th (when it should be Blake Smith). He'll give up a couple of runs and then we will go to Blake Smith with two runners on. We squeak by 14-12.
