My upset picks were LSU and Bama.... We will win this weekend and here is why
1- TEs vs a depleted LB group. This is the match up. They lost 2 LBs this weekend and those were the back ups. in all a TOTAL of 4 are out. I will take Thomas over Holcombe and Moses any day.
2- That will help with the run game. With our run style, it makes it more difficult to defend when a passing game of any kind is present. It doesn't take much to allow Fitz room. Again, I will take our TEs against their second level guys in rush blocking.
3- Our defense vs their offense... I will take that. We will get our stops and I believe we will hit them hard early and often allowing our offense time to settle.
My final score:
MSU 31
Bama 17

If we win it will probably be the 20 - 17 type game. I doubt Bama loses by more than 7 all year.

It would take us 3 games to score 31 points vs Bammer

Based upon our history, with Mullen as head coach, that would be about 23 points above our average scoring against Bama, but I hope you are correct.
This is a Nick Saban phiolosophy by yjnk. I never play backup 4 and 5* players who were not highly recruited, don't understand our football phiolosophy , and are not fully prepared to go on the field and make a positive impact.

31 points?????????? Way too early in the morning to be in the sauce

LOL. Us score 31 on Bama? LOLZ
Sorry, I'm a bit like a hitter that is in a huge slump with this game. When hitters go through slumps, they go through different stages of grief. The first stage is logic. If I fix this, then I'll start hitting again. This stage ended for me with the "We Believe" game. The next stage is anger & frustration - This stage reached it's climax when we got our ass handed to us in 2016 at home. The next stage is acceptance & humor about your futile ability. This began last year & continues to this day. This is the stage that many war vets say you have to get to in order to do you job in war when obviously pressure & stress are at a maximum level. This is also the psychological state in which many hitters get out of a slump. The key is that since you are relaxed & accepted your fate, you can now operate more freely & without pressure because you no longer put pressure on yourself. This is the stage you have to get to too beat Alabama.
My issue is that I don't think Dan Mullen is to this stage yet. The B&B show talked today about how uptight Mullen was at his press conference yesterday. Dan, let it go. Stop putting pressure on yourself to beat Bama & call plays & form a game plan that just allows your kids to have fun. Just go for it as if there are no consequences. No one cares if you beat Bama. There are no consequences to your failing in this situation. Just let it go, dial it up, & see what happens &, if you lose, just laugh & talk about what a great opportunity it was to play them. Do that & I think you'll be surprised.

actually, if you add up our last 3 games vs. Bama, we still don't have 31
-
I can see Bama 31 - MSU 17 but not the other way around.
-
We keep hearing it and I keep waiting for us to lean on our TEs in the passing game and it never seems to really happen. One of those things I'm really starting to lose faith in happening.

Lol. If we score 31 I'll eat my computer (hoping though computers taste good).

Why does it appear that when we play Bama, that we have seemed to play call to keep from losing instead of playing to win? You will never beat Bama like that.

Mack Wilson and Shaun Dion Hamilton were not back ups. We lost two linebackers in the first game vs FSU and they were both OLB.

No doubts that we will disagree on it. Most thought we would be 6-6 and 7-5. I knew posting it would put me out there.
This will be a break out game for this team and Mullen

This drives me crazy! Green and Johnson could rally do some damage against Bama but I doubt we use them. We have to find some way to keep the LBs from crashing in every play.

So, your whole LB is down by 4 starters. Inside and outside starters gone. Makes me smile even more

Thomas has 3 less catches than Mixon. We use him a good bit.

BAMA plays so many packages that "starters" aren't necessarlity on the field all the time, but Miller and Lewis (OLB pass rush specialist) and Wilson and Hamilton (ILB) are done for a while. We will likely get Lewis or Miller (can't remember which) back by UGA and the other back by playoffs. We will get Wilson back by UGA most likely. Hamilton is done for the year.
We still have Evans (starter) in the middle and Jennings (jack LB) to set the weakside edge. We will be playing Holcombe a lot at the other ILB position who has had a ton of reps this season, and then we are likely to see Moses (freshman) a lot at the other OLB position in regular and on passing downs as a pass rusher. He had 1.5 sacks against LSU.
A few other guys will obviously get reps because we need more depth than 4 players, and they will be young and inexperienced but talented. It's going to be fun to see how it plays out.

I love your thinking and I would gameplan it exactly this way. We are complaining about losing receivers that we were complaining about being midgets when they were playing. Use J. Thomas, Justin Johnson, and Farrod Green as the first team receivers. The actual WRs are backups this game. Use Mixon if healthy on jet sweeps or crossing patterns. Run the ball primarily off tackle but test the middle about five times to keep them honest.
Grantham is better than Diaz and Collins and we have more talent than ever before on defense. Tell the safeties to play the pass and trust the front 7 with run defense so they won’t get burnt...again.
If we win it won’t be a close game. Like all of our games if we win we win big.
Death penalty or bust!!!***
