It's good relative to what it could be. They're not going to use SEC refs ... they'd be accused of being one-sided, when in reality they'd probably err on BYU's side. Hopefully the neutral site officials won't be from the MWC. B1G would be OK. Could be ACC too since they're a little closer, or some of them are. None of them likes the SEC so it doesn't really matter.

I would come into ATL on a Thursday early evening and drive to Carrollton, GA off of I-20 to spend the night (they have a Marriott Courtyard and others). This is so you are not in ATL rush hour traffic Friday morning. Drive to Starkville Friday morning to avoid the Saturday game day traffic near Tuscaloosa & Starkville on US82. Stay at Columbus or West Point (America's Best Value Inn). Depart Starkville back to ATL on Sunday.
well shit, why not just drive to Starkville from Utah if you're that worried about costs.

This is not hard, you start at the closest airport and see if you can get a flight, rental car, and hotel. If you can't, then you move to the next closest airports, which would be Jackson, Memphis, Birmingham (probably inadvisable on a bama game weekend) and I guess meridian and tupelo.

Yeah, but I skirted with treated dog ear fence boards. Helps keep me warm in winter & my 27 dogs* seem to dig it!

Dude, I'm not wasting a perfectly good bonfire starter on silly landscaping. I just spray a diesel/burnt motor oil mixture around everything for that!

Wow, sorry Mr. Gates I didn't know that money was not a consideration for you. But us poor ole folk who have 2 mortgages on their double-wide need to be more frugal. If you had done any research before opening your pie hole you would know that a flight from Salt Lake to Golden Triangle cost $1000 per person and that's on Delta. Flying into Atlanta from SLC is about $400 per person. That's a $1200 savings for a couple and can pay for the hotel, car, food and a lot of beers. Trade $1200 for a 4.5 hour drive each way is a no-brainer in my book.

Back when they had decent service they wouldn't use it because Northwest had a hub in Memphis. You could fly without connections to most spots in the US from Memphis. Now that Memphis passenger wise is just a large regional airport and you are going to a hub from there too, Tupelo has small crop dusters servicing the place. GTR has nice regional jets. One other place to consider is Huntsville.
I agree on Tupelo, but I was just quoting another poster (plus there would be more hotels there). I actually work in this field, and honestly, Tupelo and GTR compete but GTR is winning and has become NE Mississippi's most viable airport. I would advise for the BYU guy to go to Jackson honestly, if GTR is THAT expensive, like some other guy said. More than anything I was just curious why everyone would NOT want to support our own airports.

Huntsville isn't a very good option for anyone unless they are flying into Huntsville only, and want convenience. They are very expensive.

I just don't get the expense arguments. We check nearly every time we fly and GTR isn't THAT much more expensive than the other options. Neither is Huntsville. Maybe it's because we are originating there, I don't know.

Your other choices are shitty hotels in bum**** nowhere places like Louisville or West Point.

Honestly, just stay home.it isn't worth it. I don't even go back to Starkville for games.
Hey! I take offense to that you asshat.

Fair enough. I've flown into and out of GTR several times though and it was more on the order of a couple of hundred dollars premium. I'm guessing the huge premium is because of increased traffic from the game?

I'd still look at Jackson and Memphis though, although once you're driving 2 hours, driving an extra 2 and a half hours isn't as much of an incremental hassle as going from essentially zero drive to two hours.

Someone making a one time trip across much of the country probably isn't as concerned about pinching pennies, over time and convenience. Where talking 14 miles vs 125 miles, and 180 miles, respectively.
