BYU fan here. Heading to game in October.
Wish you guys good luck this season.
What's the best airport to fly into? Any travel tips or advice? Thanks in advance.

This is legitimately not to be a dick. Do whatever is cheapest and that includes car rental. Golden triangle airport is closest followed by probably Jackson, maybe Meridian (tho they may not accommodate).
Just calculate the cost. If you don't have a hotel, do it now.
Enjoy Starkville. Don't get upset when we beat you. Safe travels.
Edit: Memphis and Birmingham are options too

You are best off not flying into Golden Triangle regional airport. You can't get a hotel room now. You are two years too late. So you can stay in Tuscaloosa the same weekend that Arkansas plays at Alabama (Bad idea) or Jackson or Tupelo or Birmingham. Your other choices are shitty hotels in bum**** nowhere places like Louisville or West Point.
Honestly, just stay home.it isn't worth it. I don't even go back to Starkville for games.

You don't go to games? Then why are you talking? I don't mean that rude but don't give suggestions if you don't attend games
I mean as far as game/game weekend suggestions. If you aren't in the game anymore then don't give outdated advice

Fly into Jackson (JAN). Stay in Flowood, MS. (just North of the airport) Then drive to Starkville. That is really your best bet. You will see breathtaking views of homemade brick houses with antennas that you will be able to tell grandkids about.
Oh, and leave your Refs in Utah.**

My advice:
1. Leave your officials in Provo.
2. Honestly if it were me and I was from Utah I would fly to Memphis and then drive to Tupelo and stay there. As others have said the hotels will be booked. Tupelo is about an hour away but it has plenty of hotels and some nice restaurants, some Elvis stuff, a car museum, and a Buffalo Park. They do have an airport in Tupelo but based on my flying your probably going to be better off flying in to Memphis and then renting a car. It's probably going to be cheaper to fly from Salt Lake City to Memphis if I had to guess- and I've flown to SLC twice and I think I went through Memphis at least one of those times.
3. Best option 2 to me would be to fly in to Jackson. It's only two hours from Starkville and it's all four laned. It's a bigger city than Tupelo so it has more things to do and more places to eat at. I think the State Fair is in town the weekend we play BYU. Bring LOTS of Pepto Bismol if you go there. Penn's, Dole Whip and the biscuits with syrup at the fair and you're welcome. Fondren is my favorite place to hang out in Jackson. Lots of restaurants. If you stay in Jackson make sure the hotel is in either- Madison, Ridgeland, Flowood, Pearl, Brandon, or The King Edward Hotel. Your rental car company will thank me. The Ag Museum is pretty good in Jackson as well.

It's live football. College football. It's always worth it to real fans of the game. The sights and sounds and smells and atmosphere. The nuances of the game itself. Even the fans... Some of them. Don't know how the hell Starkville has a big college program, but they do and some good tough competitive football will be played. Beautiful.

It's bad for you that Bammer is playing at home that weekend... there likely won't be anything east of Starkville....
I'd guess Memphis or New Orleans would be the closest major airports with available housing nearby...
However, if ya have a couple of wives to bring with ya, I'd swap ya a cousin/sister/wife...
*that last part was a sick joke, FYI

Fly into Nashville and take the cheap flight to Tupelo. On someday the flight is $29.00 from Nashville In to Tupelo. You may locate some game day rentals. People leasing their homes or apartment for game weekends.

I didn't realize that Tupelo had commercial service. But given that they do, Mimi has a good idea. I've stayed in Tupelo before at the Fairfield Gardens ... nice hotel. It's about a hour drive to Starkville on decent roads. You could also stay in Columbus, a town about 25 miles east of Starkville, connected by a nice road. They have several new hotels that are really good, but fairly pricey on game weekends. Most everything in Starkville and West Point has a 2 night minimum stay, and they're probably already booked.

Wonder when the booming metropolis of Provo will get a big college program.

Check your private messages and AirBNB. Lots of options left there for BYU weekend.
-
Fly into Jackson. Then, look for hotels either in Louisville (30 miles south of Starkvegas, but closer to the airport) or Columbus (25 miles east of Starkville).
I've never had problems getting rooms on football weekends on short notice in those places.
-
You can usually find a hotel if you keep checking. Maybe check the americas best value inn on highway 12 or the red roof. They may have availability just keep in mind it's just a place to sleep. If not, just fly into Jackson and drive up.
ETA I just checked hotels for that weekend and there still are rooms available at some places. I would get that done first and then you can decide where to fly in to

Why is this clown allowed to post on this board? Go f*ck yourself Mobile Bay, you're the type of fan we don't need.

If you stay in Columbus, don't go too far off of the beaten paths.
-
Really alarming to me that some of our fans tell people to avoid Mississippi airports and hotels. Unbelievable.
This guy should fly to GTR (if he can find a hotel in the area), Tupelo via Nashville, or Jackson worst case scenario. Bottom line. No reason to go to Memphis or Birmingham.
