A good anchor for sand bottom?
Looking for suggestions on an anchor for sandy saltwater bottoms. Boat is 19' bowrider

conventional folding ... need something that bites or digs into the sand ... tip - use at least 5' of heavy chain before anchor rope attachment

Danforth all the way, I use 15 feet of chain

Ya, what the other guys said. We also have a pole that we anchor with when we're in 2-3 ft of slow moving water. Kinda like a power pole but the manuel version but we use it way less than the anchor. I was just looking at anchors the other day and the exact anchor we have for our boat is $46 at Wally Word (I think).

I use 12' for a weight of around 6500 lbs ... small bay boat in shallow water could probably get by with less - but the more the better

Good tip Fish. I think Snake has said before his boat is 18.5 feet and its a bay boat type hull. I don't dont what it weighs but I bet he could use less than 12' of chain.

I think I'll split the difference and go with 6' of chain. ETA: The weight is around 2400-2500 lbs dry I believe.
I need to get a second anchor, for the stern, for when we anchor to go swimming and stuff. Just to keep the boat from spinning in circles so to speak. The rear anchor doesn't have to be the best but I like the Danforth style anchor for the bow.
Anyone ever used one of the Fortress anchors? Those look pretty nice.

I don't think they'll work in 20-60 feet of depth.

I understood the sarcasterics. That's why I used the smiley face in the reply.

Yea, guess I should have said I'm driving an Ocean Master 31. Less chain perfectly ok for smaller boat in shallow water.
