Obviously the SEC West is on the line in Starkville this weekend, but does State have to win the series to secure a host spot as well? RPI now down in the 24-25 range and a series loss here means they would have lost three of their last four series. Either way it's a better season than most expected for Cannizaro and company, but it almost seems like an all or nothing kind of series in terms of winning the West and hosting.

I think a series loss would certainly really cloud the hosting picture for the Bulldogs, but if they win the series over LSU (which I lean MSU this weekend), I think you have to give State a host site. What will be interesting to me is to see if State can go on a run in the SEC tournament and get back into the national seed discussion. I'd lean no, but never say never.

Todd, if we happen to lose to Troy midweek and still take 2 from LSU, do you still see us hosting? Just wondering due to lack of depth pitching about a potential midweek loss.

I think losing to Troy would hurt us pretty badly. But I also think 19 SEC wins are hard to overlook. I think the committee would look at the 19 SEC wins and give us a bid. We also have some good wins OOC over Ole Miss and Texas Tech and then two over South Alabama.
