Yeah but I think 2015 was a hell of a lot more inexcusable than this season. Still no idea what went wrong with that squad. We just lost too many draftees and had too many early and preseason injuries (along with an all new coaching staff) to be able to reasonably expect much in 2017. You can't just ignore all that stuff in the name of what you think we should be because of the name on the jersey. Vanderbilt, LSU, or any other major baseball power would be going through the same funk as us right now if subjected to the same circumstances.

The guy they threw tonight pitched for the U.S. National team this summer and is probably a top five round pick. It sucks he figured things out tonight. This was the same guy that walked a ton of our guys last year in the Sunday game.
Let's see how we do the rest of the series and in SEC play before we worry about missing a regional.

I don't have vandy and lsu expectations. I expect to make a regional every year, a super regional every 2-3 years, and be in the CWS every 4-5 years

It was a combination of things. We mismanaged the pitching staff and got caught in the baseball change without having a chance to adapt. Given a chance to adapt our roster and we all saw what happened.

Blaylock has struck out 13 times in 27 abs .... Pool has struck out 12 of 30....McNamee deserves a shot, let's see if he can make contact.

Gordon has struck out 11 out of 24 ABs.
Coming into tonight, we have struck out 72 times out of 319 times (22.6%) vs very poor pitching. We struck out 18 times tonight... contact is gonna be an issue this season

It doesn't matter what your expectations are. The point is Vandy and LSU are two programs that have both been considerably more successful than we have over the past decade (and in LSU's case more like the past 2 decades) and have built themselves into college baseball super powers. Whether anyone who still thinks its 1985 wants to admit it or not, they are both solidly above us in the pecking order right now in terms of the talent they have been able to bring in and overall program stature. And even they would be having the same struggles with what we have been dealing with in terms of injuries and turnover in the roster and coaching staff. Its not the end of the world if we tank this year, as a lot of really unusual circumstances have had to align perfectly for this current shit storm to ensue. I'll start judging Cannizaro and this staff in 2018, but not before then unless we somehow do make a regional this year. If that happens, we need to take the current highest salary for a college baseball coach, double it, then write him a check.

You sir knocked it out of the park! Competition changed everything, I'm thinking Cannizaro will be really good one day, he wasn't dealt the best cards to start off with. Polk II really hurt us, we are still playing catch up.

Not only missing a regional 2 out of the last 3 years, I'm concerned we will end up with a losing record 2 out of the last 3 years. Out of 10 games so far this year we already have 3 losses to teams that are mediocre to bad.

KP pitched just as well last night. Let's hit the brakes here. The season is young and this team has the tools to be a good team.

Yeah, Gordon should only see the plate against midweek opponents until he figures shit out. He's awful at the plate. SEC baseball is not for lumberjacks that just want to swing out of their shoes every pitch, and have no clue what an approach is

That being said...sometimes you just have it as a pitcher some nights. Nights where even your mistake pitches end up in a good spot. Their guy had one last night, and we still only lost by one. Our young guys will learn from it. I still think we will win 1 up there, with a good chance at winning both remaining games

We pinch hit him in the 9th in favor of another lefty that's had huge hits for us in his career. Another move that I just don't understand

Ready to see plumlee vs his best completion so far this year. I like us today. I don't like us tomorrow

We've now struck out 90 times in 353 ABs... 25.5%. We have to start making contact. We haven't even began sec play, so you know that number will most likely go up. Last year, we struck out 378 times in 2,216 ABs... 17.1%
ETA... I know you need PAs to get true strike out rate, but thebaseballcube.com doesn't have it for some reason. Rather than add sacrifices and BBs, I'll just give you the k to bb ratio for this year and last:
'17 -- 39 BBs to 90 Ks = 0.4333
'16 -- 235 BBs to 378 Ks = 0.6217

Stolen from Joe Mayo on sps...
"Poole's last 4 games...
0-14 with 8 strikeouts..."
The rest was just bashing, so I edited it out. Poole is obviously struggling though and it's probably time to try someone else

First base is a real problem right now. Gordon has been awful but Brown is only hitting .200 himself. Just a huge dropoff there from having Lowe last year. Not sure what other options we have if Rooker is going to stay in the OF.
