I'd just find somewhere to go where you won't be putting others in the way of 2nd hand smoke (but still on campus). Be courteous and don't smoke around other non-smokers, but smoke if you want to. That's just one non-smokers opinion.
-
The answer is.... nothing.
-
As far as I can tell nothing will happen more than someone asking you to put it out. Just like a lot of no smoking policies there really isn't a penalty.
I used to smoke and I am proud that I quit but I think it is stupid to not have an area for people to smoke. Instead of having all the smokers in one area you will have them trying to sneak a smoke in various locations that may bother people. Just like when you make a hotel 100% smoke free you have a greater chance of getting a room that smells like smoke because there are no rooms reserved for smokers and the smokers just smoke in whatever room they get. Smokers are not going to spend all day on campus and not smoke.

I smoke cigars. I like them. I use the smoke as idiot repellent.

I think the biggest effect of this rule will not be so much on tailgating, but smoking inside the stadium on the ramps and stairwells. Even as a smoker I never thought that was a fair policy because everyone has to walk right through the clouds when entering or leaving the stadium.
-
i single handley kept the Marlboro factory running the 3 rd shift. But I shed them 25 or so years ago, and am sympathetic with smokers. But after quitting I found out I was really allergic to the smoke, and just can't be around it. But I just leave or move if someone is smoking near me. I can't even go in a bar where they allow smoking, but I quit drinking as well, but thats another story.
I guarantee its a lot easier for me to move than for them to stop smoking..
-
They aren't going to do shit. Just like they don't pour everyone's beer out.
If they want to police something, why don't they just make sure our shit is safe from local starkville punks who come steal from tailgates.
-
I am I reading that gay crap correctly? They are supposed to actually give you smoking cessation literature? I can just picture that at my tailgate . Please God make this happen. I haven't seen a live wedgy since high school probably.
-
They really can't do anything to a visitor. Just don't be an ass about it.
-
I suppose you could tell them to go enforce something that's actually illegal on campus, such as alcohol use ... and particularly by those under 21. Smoking is not illegal (unless it's weed). I don't smoke ... but they should have designated areas for smoking.
I think I'd rather have somebody smoking than to have a drunk throwing up all over the place, or acting like drunks are wont to do.

I agree with this. Set up designated smoking areas (at least on game days).
At the end of the day, they can't actually do anything to alumni/visitors, so I wouldn't even worry about it. Like I said, just don't be an ass about it (intentionally smoking around people who don't want to be around it) (also, not directed at you).

Show them your BDC ranking and go on as normal...

I think this is for insurance benefit/savings, and my understanding is that it has to be 100 percent or no benefit. That's why they can't have designated smoking areas. I hate those Mf'ers wont't even let me vape. Damnit.

Idiots who think 2nd hand smoke from outdoors is going to kill you.

The smoking area is actually very large. All you do is go to the very edge of campus, take one more step, and boom you're there.
You're welcome, smoke all you want.
