Per Mike Bonner, Dak was the only freshman in 10 years to...
...throw for a TD vs Alabama and LSU.
-
But he can't throw as well as Relf**

Pretty sure both of those were in garbage minutes, but I really hope it's a good omen. I've been more than ready to have a running threat at qb for some time now.

Pretty sure about every team has garbage minutes vs those teams. So what?
PS - Wonder of Saban considered that garbage minutes

Wrong
Dak threw our first TD pass of the game vs LSU when they brought him in inside the 20

Garbage minutes against bama is still tougher than a lot of SEC defenses. Just saying....

It was also our 2nd offense vs their back-up D

Yep. Don't think Saban won't go totally apeshit on his guys that make mistakes in these so called garbage minutes.

It's the roller coaster of hope that this program keeps us on that makes it hell being a State fan. - CadaverDawg, 10/15/22

I didn't realize Dak threw the first TD against LSU. But good lord, didn't realize I'd stir people up by using that term. Point is the game was well in hand vs Bama. Of course Saban would fly-off. Everybody on here uses the term in some form or fashion, why get so worked up over it? It is very true Bama's 2nd and even 3rd team D can start on pretty much any team they want. Guess really I want to be optimistic but been conditioned to stay skeptical

don't question Dak's supremacy of all things football!!!
He needs to develop his passing. He can't make all the throws accurately, but I think he'll get there because of his work ethic. I think he's probably a season away from being able to be a pocket QB in addition to being a ground and pound guy.

We've averaged 60 garbage minutes per game against those two per year, so what?

Dak is neither a pocket or ground and pound guy. He has the ability to do both which keeps a defense honest.
Tyler doesn't keep us honest in this offense, because he isn't a threat to run.
If Dak can get his rhythm in the read option, it will open up the field for the receivers. Think Madkin scrambling and finding Kelvin Love on 3rd down.

I've had a similar thought too. I know Dak isn't there yet but with game reps and more extensive work in practice due to more reps, whose to say his completion percentage couldn't surpass Tyler or even become at least as good as Tyler is passing.

I hear Dak is a vocal leader. A rah rah guy.
While Tyler is more the silent type.
It could be the offense has more spark with Dak because he is a leader that players respond to. That's a big, big plus that can't be overlooked.

Dak is a ground and pound guy right now because he can't make all the throws. He's a short yardage specialist.

Does anyone know exactly how many freshmen QBs played against Bama and LSU in the same year? It's an almost meaningless stat without knowing the sample size.

Supposedly there is a method to that madness. Dak is supposed to be learning to read the DL and the LBs. That's pretty much all he has to do to run short yardage, and it is something that will carry over in running all of the offense.
