And considering the amount of money that the fans put into supporting their program, the amount of money that games bring into the local economy and the massive TV contracts, you are looking at a massive fallout....and there might even be some type of breach of contract involved with the TV deals.
If our players threatened to go on strike, I would expect our coach to make it very clear that they were free to protest and that he supported their right to do so, but that it would not be done at the expense of the football program and that any player that did try to go on strike would immediately lose their scholarship. I just think that it has to be made very clear that there is no circumstance under which going on strike is a viable option.
You can not pull a kid's scholarship because they are advocating for something they believe in. I mean, you can, but that would be way worse than supporting them. I would hope Mullen wouldn't do that. He would be absolutely destroyed across the country, and that would be far more detrimental to his future job prospects than this is for Pinkel's.

If I were a parent with a college age kid, they would be the last place a would send so much as one tuition dollar. Gutless administrators are everywhere on college campuses, but Missouri's are willing to hands the reins over to the loudest howlers in the vicinity. It will not go well.

Sounds like Ferguson is still going on. Missouri is literally hell on earth.

Describing this as simply 'advocating for something they believe in' is largely understating the situation. This thread wouldn't be more than about 8 or 10 posts long if they were just advocating for something they believe in.......the issue is that they are holding the university and the community hostage, threatening them with the loss of millions of dollars if they don't give them what they want. You don't see a problem with that?

They're not holding anyone hostage. That's insane.
Yes, they could potentially cost the university millions of dollars. That's the power they have.
Do you have an issue with employee strikes?
As I've said before, the players do have power here. The fact that they have this power is not their fault; it's the fault of a system in which these players are responsible for millions of dollars to the university. If you have an issue with the fact that they can do this, then you have an issue with the system, but don't blame these players for that reality.
Are you saying players should be forced to play? They can refuse to play. And the university can pull their scholarships and get new players. It's the way it works. If you don't want a situation in which players can realize the collective power they hold and 'threaten the university with the loss of millions of dollars if they don't get what they want,' then stop paying for college football tickets, stop watching games, etc. Just give your money directly to the university and make it clear it has nothing to do with college football. Then the players will have no power.

Pulling a scholly for advocating would be bad. Who said anything about doing that? This is not merely advocating for smn you believe in. This is, at it's best, putting your societal beliefs above your team, an at it's worst, a breach of contract.
To be clear, I fully support the players right to do this, and I fully support the university's right to pull their scholly for doing it. The problem is, only the latter would be "destroyed across the country" for its actions.

Not certain what I find more amusing - The Totalitarian left devouring its own @ Mizzou or the entitled little kiddies @ Yale becoming inconsolable when they learn the rest of the world doesn't share their narrow worldview....Academia is reaping the anti-intellectual PC nonsense it has sown for decades......

Why does the group want to be left alone. They certainly didn't mind whoring their message in about a dozen other videos I have watched.
Could it be a certain student on hunger strike was possibly eating in the camp? That would certainly hurt the cause wouldnt it ?

If that video is representative of the whole movement, that's pretty indefensible. Obviously the same First Amendment freedoms that allow the students to protest also allow journalists to cover events on public government property.
Do the students in the video have any reason to believe that the photographer will slander/libel them or something? Or are they trying to prevent all media whatsoever from covering their public event?
