You're crazy. Good DCs are a dime a dozen, quite honestly. And Pelini & Chizik have proven to be elite DCs, should we choose to go after them. My guess is Pelini will be after a HC gig, though. The guy never won fewer than 9 games, for crying out loud. And we know O can coach some D and recruit. He did a damn good job as interim HC at USC, and frankly, deserved at least an interview for the permanent HC gig. He's definitely grown as a coach since he was at TSUN, which some people here can't seem to comprehend.

^^This^^. Whoever the f*ck it is, we need to get it completed soon. We will have recruits waivering and other teams poaching more than usual. Stick had to of had some feeling that this was possible and should have a short list of candidates. If we drag this process our it will show that Strick was unprepared yet again.

Strick doesn't hire the assistant coaches. It will be on Dan

and just exactly who have we had that didn't jump ship (aside from JLD)

Pelini and Chizik really would not be bad at all. Well according to several on this board, Dan would have to be willing to turn over the defensive strategy and playcalling, which means any former HCs could never work under Dan. Pelini and Chizik are not happening.

1) Barry Odom (Memphis)
2) David Gibbs (Houston)
3) Bill Clark (UAB)
4) Kevin Steele (Bama)
5) Gene Chizik (SEC network)
6) DJ Durkin (FL)
7) Coach O
Wouldn't shock me if we didn't talk to all of these guys. I really like what Odom has done at Memphis. Durkin is a young up and comer but hard to tell how much of that was Muschamp and how much of the FL D was really influenced by Durkin. Wouldn't take too much effort to figure it out though.
O gives a recruiting boost but doesn't have DC experience really. Honestly I think anybody on the list above would make a good and defensable hire.

Why is everyone so high on Bill Clark? He's been a HC and was a DC for South Alabama. He's hardly had any DC experience with a real Power 5 school. He may be great, but there's better out there for sure.

One really nice thing about Clark would be his relationship with the HS coaches in Alabama, he is very well respected among his former colleagues and of course knows the area and people like the back of his hand. That being said, the UCF DC is very intriguing.

Here is a name with a tie to Mullen. Chuck Heater DC at Marshall. Doubt he leaves West Virginia but he has had a good recruiting reputation. Older guy though and may be at his last job with his buddy Doc Holiday. But he has done a really good job there and is respected coach.

Hasn't the UCF DC only been there one year? He does have Alabama and Georgia ties.

This all day long. Bill Clark knows Alabama and we are making huge in roads there at the high school level. That would be especially beneficial for this class with guys like Smitherman, Mixon, Payne, and a few others.
Plus he's been a SUCCESSFUL HC everywhere he's been that was on his way up. 1 year at Jacksonville State and they go 11-4 and make the quarterfinals. One year at UAB and he gets them bowl eligible for the first time in a decade. Don't care that it was at UAB or Jacksonville State. He's been successful everywhere he's been and that to me is what matters here.
I will agree that Tyson Summers has me intrigued as well. He's been at Troy, Georgia, Georgia Southern, UAB, and now UCF. He's young and has experience coaching LBs. I think it could be a very good fit.
-
Yep, add summers to my list - he's worth looking hard at as well

If we get can Pelini he should be number 1 on the list, saw on twitter he was going to youngstown state, hope not. Outside of him I like Orgeron, Odom from memphis, Bill Clark. I dont know a whole lot about any of the other names you guys posted except Joe Lee Dunn that would be epic

nobody could ever accuse Joe Lee Dunn of a bend but don't break defense

Well first, as someone else has said, I don't really think a Pellini or Chizik is even realistic. Second, if good DCs are so easy to find why have 2 of Mullen's 4 DC hires been HORRIBLE (Torbush and Wilson). Statistically Collins went backwards this year for sure but I still think he is a very good DC and no I don't have absolute confidence that we will hire someone as good or better. And beyond that I'm getting sick of going through the DC merry go round every year or two. It would be nice to have a little continuity on that side of the ball for a change.

Not a smart move if this occurs.
