I understand why Dan is doing what he is doing. He wants to get his 2nd team guys like Williams meaningful reps. We are good enough to survive this which is why I think he is doing it. Williams needs legit game minutes, not 3rd quarter blowout minutes because he's probably gonna be called on at some point. We aren't going to look pretty but Williams has to get comfortable in these spots. Dak just has to play better. He doesn't get a pass. He's a better QB than that and he should own that pick

Dak is not a 2 year starter. He needs to stay in games to build rhythm and snaps. It's stupid to play Williams early in games. He is a backup for a reason. Our QB who is just a Jr needs game reps first and foremost.

Do we really think early game reps against UAB are what's going to be the difference between Dak being good enough to take us places and not? No way. Williams will almost be assured to play as some meaningful points this year. I would argue that Williams playing in the 1st quarter against UAB while the game is still up for grabs is more important than Dak playing in the 1st. I don't worry about Dak. I worry about Dak getting hurt and what we have behind him.

Now what I do agree with is that at some point you have to stop it because you either aren't getting anything done on offense or the game is close. Williams should not see the field again unless this game is in hand.

We care more about building depth than we do about playing well. Depth is good, but if it is at the sacrifice of playing well, your priorities are out of order.
