After the Aussies screwed up a 2 on 1, the Dutch come the other way and score from about 30 yards out. Must be said that the goalie should've probable saved it, he got his hands to it. Bad goal to give up. Just goes to show, the worse team has to take all of their chances, if they don't, they'll lose. Showed with us and Ghana. We had less chances, but scored them

Update: Ronaldo returned to the open portion of Portugal training. Looks like reporters freaked out when he sat out some of it to ice his knee

Xavi out for this Chile match. Spain has to win this if they want to go through. They're in the same spot as Portugal, a tie doesn't necessarily help them much.

Do I remember someone posting on here that Chile has a really good team?

Chile is definitely good, and they're up 1-0 on Spain...not looking good for them, especially since they started Costa again for some dumb reason.
BTW: There are rumors that Cristiano Ronaldo is out of the World Cup with injury. Needless to say, that would be massive for us.

2-0 Chile. They are a good team. I think a match between them and Brazil would be a good one.

I honestly can't believe this. Spain looks like a shell of themselves. Why they started Casillas and Diego Costa after the first match, I'll never know.
The second goal is 100% on Casillas, and Costa is ruining any good offensive chances they have. They need to bring Xavi and Fabregas in for Costa and Xabi Alonso (he's been awful) and they need to sub Casillas out if they want any shot at all of winning this.

One question that I honestly don't know the answer to. When is the last time that neither Iberian Peninsula team made it past Group stage?

Chile looks just a little better than Spain to me. Both looked horrible that first half.

Humor me. I may hate soccer, but I love statistics.
3 points for a win
1 point for a tie
Ties are broken by goal differential and then goals scored, right?
Say all four teams tie every game 0-0. Final standings look like this:
Team A 3 points 0 goals, 0 GD
Team B 3 points 0 goals, 0 GD
Team C 3 points 0 goals, 0 GD
Team D 3 points 0 goals, 0 GD
Who advances?

I believe it goes to total goals scored and then FIFA ratings.

Well, they're out. 3 of the last 4 World Cups in which the defending champ doesn't make it out of the group. This will be the end of this era; players like Xavi, Casillas, Xabi Alonso, Busquets, Pique, Villa, Torres will probably never play for Spain in meaningful competition again.
Embarrassing way to end for Chile, though, with the constant faking of injury. Diving and the ability to just lay down and run the clock are the two things that are worst about soccer. They're both fixed with good officiating, though.
