How can we generate more runs?

Who should be in the lineup and what is the ideal order? We are not scoring enough.

My take is probably controversial but it is backed by analytics.

    1. Ace Reese, 3B
    2. Sully, DH
    3. Parker, RF
    4. Bevis, 1B
    5. Frei, 2B
    6. Stallman, LF

Those are our top 6 guys as far as OPS.

    7. Woodson, SS
    8. Milewski, C
    9. Chance, CF but maybe Teel vs righties.

We need to be producing more runs especially on Sundays.

Yes- this is the way. Our stats looks good. Buttttttttt we arent getting hits in bunches anymore. Adding to that- we arent getting walked/HBP very much right now. We only had 11 combined in the 3 games this weekend. Then the cherry on top? Teams are playing good defense against us. Only 8 errors made against us in our last 9 SEC games. We arent getting extra ops/free passes against teams hardly so we have to bunch hits. We simply arent doing that

Against SC- we made 1 error in 3 games with only 9 free passes. Thats why they only scored 6 runs in 3 games.

Which also leads you to believe that we?re going to break through soon.

Our defense has been really good. And Stallman has not earned it over Teel plus Bevis would be in LF if him and Stallman are out there.

Teel - CF vs. Righty / Chance - LF vs. Lefty
    Ace - 3B
    Sullivan - DH
    Frei - 2B
Chance - LF vs. Righty / Teel - CF vs. Lefty
    Bevis - 1B vs. Lefty / Stallman - 1B vs. Righty
    Parker - RF
    Milewski - C vs. Lefty / James - C vs. Righty
    Woodson - SS

Milewski - C replacement in the vs. Righty lineup once the starter is pulled if we're ahead. James can catch McP / Foster / TV, but struggles once we change pitcher.
Sanders the speed specialist. I don't hate pinch hitting for Woodson and then replacing with Sanders late in games.
VV and Parker could platoon as well, but Parker is hard to sit because the talent is there. But VV stats say platoon.
    Nunnalee defensive replacement.
Wyers better just learn short because Frei has taken full control of 2B.
Mershon needs time in the oven.
Raymond is a serviceable spot backup but stop pinch hitting him.

Stay the course with this plan. Commit to the Parker / VV platoon if the splits necessitate it. This lineup has to score 5+ a game and the Ws will come. 40 wins and we guarantee host. Thats 10-5 with 2 gimmes and a 3rd against a team we 3-0'd in their park. 4-0 against the neighboring Tiger teams this week and 5-5 + Nicholls W sounds doable.

Personally I think we should just stick with the lineup we used on Saturday that scored 9 runs.

When I saw the lineup on Sunday I was like WTF? Chance leading off and James catching? It worked like I thought it would along with the passed balls/wild pitches.

Thankfully it looks like Foster might be turning a corner or we lose that game.

Really the only thing I would change is platoon Stallman and Bevis. Maybe platoon Wyers and Frei too.

Woodson's defense is a bigger issue to me. But they're concerns about Wyers defense at SS too. Maybe use Gatlin Sanders as a defensive replacement late in the game?

I would not let James catch anymore either. I know Raymond hasn't been any better.

Bunt more and move runners up.
We are making this game a lot harder than it has to be at the plate.

The frustrating thing about baseball is that it is a game of streaks and it's about when your hot vs when you're not. Whoever wins the World Series- MLB or Omaha- is usually the hottest team rather than the best team.

I feel like our approach is OK. But we have a lot of guys that are going 1/3 or 1/4 every game- guys like Noah and Ace Reese. And that's not bad at all but we need some of those guys to start going 3/4 with a home run and a double. And I think that's why it's hard to figure out what the lineup should be. Everyone complains about Woodson and rightfully so- but he also is among the SEC leaders in doubles and he drove in a run against Memphis.

So, maybe the solution is to just play guys like Teel, Ace, and Noah and leave them alone and hope they get hot while at the same time continue to play Bevis and Vito and other guys that are hot right now.

This is where football and baseball are different because you can't just "feed" a guy in baseball or change out someone on the o-line or a QB that is struggling and then things maybe click. Or pass the ball more or run the ball more or something like that. But that makes it a little harder to "fix" things in baseball too.
