Thus far in his recruiting not looking overly good though Cali Smallwood is a good player that appears to be immediate help for this team in a key area of need...good player. Brother J, you just burned up all respect I had for you and your posting to keep us informed on MSU women?s basketball. Everything you just wrote is absolutely hogwash! Nobody in State?s Athletics department or Women?s basketball program is being racist. But you sure the hell are! Take your RAcISt attitude and shove it! Bringing that stuff out when damn near every girls basketball player at State under Purcell has been a Black Player! I hope he does find us 2 Caitlyn Clarks and 2 Sofie Cunninghams to play basketball at State!

Being discriminated against is real. Take women's basketball coaching for instance. Lots of really good black women's basketball coaches but few get the bigger coaching jobs. Most get passed over for way less qualified white coaches. The black lady coaching at Arkansas State right now is really good and way more qualified for recently filled jobs at the major universities. She's a better coach than Sam Purcell or Fred Castro. But a lot of these AD's aren't quick to hire these black women...rarely get the big jobs. Not to mention.others. Coach Yo at Ole Miss got a break and ran with it. If Coach Yo was the coach at Miss.State right now they'd be really good. Blair Schaefer could build a better team and out coach Sam as well. Also, take Kara Lawson at Duke,..she was a Tennesse all time great and an excellent coaching candidate for the Tennessee women's coaching job but they continuously went with the less qualified white former players...who have struggled. These people aren't /haven't been good coaches but but that's how it is out here. Lawson has been outstanding at Duke but would be really hard (not impossible) for her to get the job. If she was white she would have been gotten the head coaching job there.

Race aside..these are not overly good players that Coach Purcell is bringing in on visits. Not SEC starter level. Cali Smallwood appears the most potential to help the team.

Again, you?re apparently not understanding my point. Fire Sam?..if the boosters/donors/alumni don?t want to give their money based off of previous results from current coach?..well they can do whatever they want to do with their money. Again, who gives 2 ****s about players that don?t care about MSU athletics much less will never contribute to MSU athletics bc they are looking for a pay day. Your argument is horseshit bc of the portal/entitlement that players have due to a terrible set up for college athletics. At some point, you need to understand that big money wants a ROI, and race has nothing to do with it, but please don?t act like that these mfers (players) are ever going to contribute to MSU athletics! It?s called being smart investors! Zac Selmon or any other AD can?t control the ANIMAL that has been created by NCAA and the ?legal system?!

Agree that the system is messed up but still no way to spin this misleading of players and blatant racist recruiting by Coach Purcell. No argument (horseshit?) here..just stating facts, speaking up against wrong.

Well I'm a black man and can say I don't see Purcell as racist at all. He has recruited and coached plenty of black players. I will say that I'm not sure the girls he is currently recruiting are SEC players though. I do like Cali Smallwood, she is a knockdown down shooter so I like that pick up... not real high on the others he is on or has already brought in.
To your point Jdelta, I mean he has literally only gone after white players this year, High School and portal.. but I genuinely think its just coincidence, I dont see any racism at all.. Purcell is a good guy from what Ive seen. Also look at his staff.. alot of diversity.

Man, this no coincidence. Need to wakeup. Also, the 2026 recruiting class..no blacks.
It's not just Coach Purcell..it's other people with connection to the basketball program pushing this as well. I do agree that it doesn't seem that Coach Purcell would target and bring in just whites out of the transfer portal. Also, that hasn't traditionally been his recruiting since arriving or back at Louisville. Theirs been a change..not by coincidence either.

Bro dont tell me I need to wake up. You're jumping on here making accusations and assuming without facts, only opinions. If Purcell is racist what about all the other black players he's recruited for all these years.

Wasn' t looking to offend you NCMSTFAN but yes...based on my monitoring and research into Miss. State women's basketbal transfer portal recruiting since before the portal officially opened...I was able to become aware the targetted players, their agents (including agencies), the portal misses and the multiple default players and agencies (not all)...this over the last few weeks. Remember you indicated that I was posting random players and asked me to post more specific info into the players that Miss. State women's program is recruiting out of the portal. So I ended up taking an even deeper dive. Once I get everything together and organized..will post a breakdown of my findings as well as other related info.

Yes please post because Im interested in what you see and why you've come to this conclusion. Just be careful with those accusations though because at the end of the day you dont really know exactly who he gets, theres alot of available spots that still need to be filled. We currently have 6 girls on the team. Madison Francis, Favour Nwaedozi, Melissa Guillet, Cali Smallwood, Lani Smallwood and Flores. We can carry up to 15 but usually only carry 12 or 13. Regardless of color we need players, SEC players... Thats where Im concerned right now, we need size and athleticism to compete in the SEC and I'm seeing neither with the players he's recruiting right now.

Thinking about not posting any of it...we can get along on.this board. Coach Purcell seems to be a nice guy. Gonna drop this whole thing...see how things work out. Though will do my best to post some helpfu info. Nice conversation my friend.
Also, I agree..neither the size nor overall athleticism to compete in the SEC. Not bringing in SEC starter level players with these recruits. I've continued to defend Coach Purcell but starting to appear that he's continuing to not do well in the portal and won't make it past this upcoming season. It's still early in the transfer season but not looking good thus far though I do feel that Cali Smallwood was a solid pickup. Unless Purcell and this staff can find and sign atleast 1 big time guard and get some more help in the post they'll be on the hot seat early, very possibly gone by this time next year. Same for the Texas A&M and Tennessee women's basketball head coaches. Arkansas...that's a whole nother story.

Women's basketball team needs atleast 1 big time guard (possibly a combo.guard), no getting around it. The SEC is much to tough of a league to not have a really good guard capable of taking over games.

NCMSTFAN...this is the guard that the women's basketball program needs (offensively and defensively). She recently led Marshall to the WNIT Championship title...won the whole thing.
Grad-Transfer combo guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey just announced entering the transfer portal out of Marshall. She's out of Trenton, New Jersey.

Her numbers look good. Are we recruiting her?

Sam just picked up PG Reese Beaty from Iowa State. She averaged 4.6 ppg 2.6 rpg 3.3 apg. Shot 37% from the field and 27% from three. No disrespect to her, Im sure she is a solid PG but Purcell has to do better than this. He has Madison Francis on this team, one of the best players in the SEC, she needs to be surrounded by talent and Im not overly excited about who we have around her other than Cali Smallwood who is a knock down shooter, something we needed. Ill wait it out to see who else he picks up before I pass judgment, we have about 6 or 7 more players to sign.

Basically they've shown a willingness to look at and make contact with good players like this but have yet to show being in serious mix with any of them. Miss. State's transfer portal recruiting was really bad last year. Thus far....same this year. Not seeing anything from Coach Purcell that indicates that he'll hold this job past the end of this next season...could change, but for now not looking good.

I see roles for C Smallwood and M Phifer but I’m pretty high on R Beaty pushing for a pretty significant role. She played on a very talented Iowa State team but was still able to work her way into a backup role playing over twenty minutes. She had nearly a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio and was second on the team in steals behind Jada Williams. I do agree we still need a combo guard capable of pushing for all conference honors and serviceable size in the post. However, again, I really like this addition.
