If the "elites" break away, Ole Miss will be the 13th or 14th SEC school invited to the breakaway league.

I don't think it's going to happen though. I expect the entire Power Four to break away, not a subset of it. Fans of the "left behind" schools wouldn't shift their allegiances, so consolidation wouldn't really work. Washington State and Oregon State got left behind because they barely had any fans to begin with.

I just assumed they would take the highest performing football team in each state to maintain the footprint. It wouldn’t make sense from a marketing and money stand point to leave a state completely out.

Oregon State has a better baseball program than us and they got left behind. Baseball does not generate revenue the way football and basketball do. It is going to be all about which schools like generate the most money. I have no idea what college sports will look like in 5-10 years, but I guarantee our baseball program one way or another is not going to determine where we land.

We are the Washington Generals under Lebby in our own conference, 1-15. We have to get our act together ASAP with wins. I bet every opponent, even most OOC teams, circles us as a win on their schedules. Baseball won't save us from a mega-conference realignment, just as a successful hockey program won't save any northern/eastern teams. Football wags the dog in all programs that don't produce their own revenue to exist.
