Best guess Baseball Dallas weekend
Do we go with our regular Fri/Sat/Sun plan out there? Or do we save Val or McPh for Game 3 vs UCLA with it being such a big game come seeding time for the Tourney?

It's probably going to be a match what they do situation. If I had to just guess what we do:
Fri: McPherson
Sat: Valincius
Sun: Foster/Pitzer
I doubt we change it up for one game the first weekend. Also, Charlie or Pitzer would still give us plenty of talent on the mound. We also would probably have a pretty full bullpen if we threw Ryan and Tomas the first two days.

The Dallas series is the 3rd weekend. Agreed that throwing our #3 gives us plenty of talent on the mound buttttttt- you would only have to switch one day for us to throw Mc or Val- and we get another weekend after before the SEC to correct it. If it's me- I'm winning that damn game and am going to throw my 1 or 2 against them. Statement game that will weigh fairly big come June when the Committee makes decisions

Keep the rotation the same. It's one game and it's early. We have a SEC schedule. If we beat UCLA we'll make some noise early but losing the game won't hurt us. Beating Arizona State could be a big win too. Not sure about Virginia Tech but they're probably easily top 100 RPI and I'm being conservative here.

Friday- Arizona State (Pitzer)
Saturday- Virginia Tech (McP)
Sunday- UCLA (Valincius)
Tuesday- USM (Ben Davis)
I don't know who the Ace really is. Charlie Foster, Duke Stone, and Ben Davis could be weekend guys. McP might be a closer again. Pitzer might be long relief. Like Vals experience on Sunday. UCLA will save their Ace for MSU.
In 2021, the first rotation was McLeod, Harding, Fristoe ... then McLeod, Cerantola, Fristoe .... finally Bednar, Harding, McLeod by CWS Fristoe and Cerantola were not competing and McLeod was busted.

If UCLA throws their ace Logan Reddemann. RHP.
Good time to put 7 or 8 lefties on him.
Teel, Frei, Nunnallee, Ace, Stallman, Raymond, Parker, Sanders

I disagree. I think it's huge come June when they will be deciding the top 4 seeds

Stone is the better option than pitzer on Sunday.

We got 6 options for 3 weekend spots. 1985 is very jealous.

It won't be any different than beating LSU in the grand scheme of things. It's a no lose situation for us really. But who knows what UCLA's RPI actually is going to be since they play in the Big 10 now? They're a bad weekend against Indiana from tumbling.

I don't think you can really compare a staff under Foxhall and Parker.
Ben Davis is much more likely to close against USM than start.
On paper our rotation is better than 2021. Valinicus and McPherson are fighting for one and two. Foster and Stone are competing for Sunday. Pitzker is probably the relief ace. Ben Davis has been mentioned potentially as the closer. Dane Burns in the darkhorse here. Those are probably our primary guys unless Kirk, Bauer, Rhodes or Miller step up.

i don't care who we throw just win baby!

That's actually probably worse that it's the 3rd weekend, for some reason I had the first weekend on my mind. The day we play UCLA, March 1, will be 12 days from when we start our first conference series in Fayetteville. I don't know that the best idea is change up the rotation at that point. Now if UCLA was to throw their ace that may change things, but I imagine we'll play the long game.

UCLA plays Tennessee, Texas A&M & State that weekend. They aren't going to save their Ace for Sunday. They'll stick with their normal rotation, as should we.

It will be interesting to watch what happens here. This staff will not be as unsettled on a lineup or roles as the last one, once roles are defined they might not want to shake it up much. You know that routine and mindset are so important especially on the bump, if they don't feel comfortable I feel like they will stay with the defined roles.

I heard an interview with Parker a few days ago and he talked about Pitzer and the Cape. He mentioned that the Cape has a bigger strike zone and hitters are using wood bats and that success there doesn't necessarily translate equally to the SEC. He said Pitzer had some things to work on coming out of the fall, but I didn't get impression that he won't contribute. I did get the impression that as things stand now, he won't be starting on the weekends.
ETA: It sounds like Kirk has made some strides. Parker talked like he may be close to working himself into the mix as a contributor.

Even BOC had multiple rotations last year. After Evan Blanco, Woolfork and another dude struggled, he adjusted to a new group. Valincius became his ace. Friday was supposed to be Evan Blanco. The Woolfork guy struggled and never pitched like he did against MSU in the charlotte regional, he was also expected to be excellent.
Yeah, he did not bring his last UVA Pitching Coach to Starkville

It's relative to me. Yes, the strike zone is larger and they use wood bats and yes, the Cape isn't what it used to be since the portal became a thing. But that said, Pitzker was still the most dominant guy there and the video I saw of him pitching definitely plays up in the SEC. He's a two pitch guy to me so I would be very surprised if MSU starts him. I think he will be our relief ace and maybe end up as our closer though. I was a little surprised when I heard that Ben Davis is the front runner for the closer role.
Kirk is interesting because he has as high an upside as any of the other pitchers but he had a leg injury that caused him to sit out last year. It's going to be interesting to see how BOC manages Foster, Stone, and Kirk. There are a ton of creative options we could go with. I could definitely see Kirk being the midweek starter though.
