Hat tip to Jans
It looked like this year was a waste, but Jans got them to buy in, and they are a much better and tougher team now.

Yes, sir! Big road win great effort by our players and coaches! This is how you do it.
-
Great win, but it means nothing if we don't beat OK Wednesday. Gotta have it
-
Only two things to say:
The positive: GREAT WIN FOR THE DOGS
The questionable: Jones is going to Cost Jan?s his job this year if he doesn?t make him the manager/ball boy!
-
Really nice to get a good SEC road basketball win after all the negativity from last night's football game.

Jones had 2 big plays in OT. He also had some bad ones. I'm not on the never play jones train, but I am on the play him less

I can buy 16 minutes maximum for him. Two 4 minute bursts a half with a combination of Hubbard - Epps - Macura - BWalk - Achor.

Thumb up

Jones had 3 huge steals. And 4 offensive rebounds.
He's also second on the team in plus-minus.
He can be infuriating, but he makes winning plays.

Where have you seen the plus/minus stats? Just curious

Bart and Charlie discussed them last week on their show.

Plus/Minus isn't that good of a stat to really tell how well a player is playing. Theres so many more advanced analytics that can tell a better story.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...ayers_advanced
Basketball ref has some advanced analytics to peruse. I'll point you to the most commonly used one - PER. Which player efficiency rating is basically an all in one. This tells us what those who have watched every game already know - Warren was our worst player by far. Hubbard is solidly our best. But as for Jones - he's the second worst and it's a noticeable gap.
Hubbard at 22.8 on his own island. Everyone else is 4 below him and in the 18.4 to 13.3 - a 5 point window except for Warren (1.7) and Jones (10.8).
People praise his offensive rebounding - but his ORB% is below that of Sergej, Achor, and even Ali. You can say it's because he's a "guard" but his putrid offensive contribution is more akin to a forward so I'm comparing him there. Case in point on the bad offensive output - his Assist% is 11.3% - lowest for a guard on our team. His turnover % is second highest on our team. Now Warren is just a laughably bad outlier, so the 22.4% for him and 20.4% for Achor Achor look less bad. But Sergej is the only other player above 13% at 16.6%. - Jones is literally a black hole and likely a bucket for the other team 1/5 of the time.
Now you might say I'm cherry-picking what he does bad. So in fairness - he has the most Defensive win shares on the team. But he is one of two players to have NEGATIVE win shares on offense for us. That means overall if he touches the ball on offense - it's more likely for our opponent to score. Further emphasizing this - his total win share / 40 minutes is 0.07. The only other player on our team below .1 is Achor Achor at 0.093.
He's not a winning player. Now I'll concede to 7, it's often about the 3-5 minute mark range of having Jones out there where I get irritated at him. Shorter stints may help improve his contributions and limit his mistakes. But man we don't have the leeway to figure it out.
I like him and have wanted him to succeed. But the growth beyond being a hustle defensive spark plug just isn't there. How he hasn't developed a corner 3 just tells me he doesn't want it enough OFF the court. A guy like him with a corner 3 could play in the NBA if developed consistent free throw and catch & shoot 3 point ball shooting. Instead he's a tornado black hole on offense and more a hustle for steals defensive guy than a true lockdown defender like a herb jones (who I always thought his potential could reach to).
Just frustrating.

Just wanted to say last nights win in Austin, Tx was HUGE and was very hard thing to do.
1. A road win in this conference is off the charts hard especially for middle of the pack teams.
2. Beating Tx in Austin imo is like beating Ky at Rupert.
3. Josh Hubbard was/is a beast. But a little beast.
4. The rest of the team really hustled especially towards the end regulation and overtime.
Jans redeemed my faith in him last night. I was really worried about this set of players less Josh.

I love Jans but the above comment you made is not true. We usually wear down as the year goes. Hope this year is different.

We dug a huge hole. Even with the win, we're 96th in net. So yeah, we have to have a home win against Oklahoma

Truth, it is going to take a decent mens Bball year, great WBB year and great baseball to wipe the stench away from football.

Agree on all points. Epps has really proved to be a player also. Him and Hub in backcourt is best in SEC. We got some nice pieces. Love what Achor brings. Still a few puzzling pieces - McGee for one. I know Jones was in for D late and size but

Agree, his ball handling under pressure is the biggest issue with Jones in at crunch time for me. His hustle, D, etc. can offset his O cause everyone knows who is going to make the plays in the end - Hub or Epps. The ball handling is the real risk.

I get the we need to win Wed but the road win at TX was big. That win could keep us in or out of postseason? 0-2 a lot worse than 1-1. That being said, yes I'm looking to be 2-0 Thursday.
