Now Selmon is a football guy. He played football in college. His Dad is in the Pro Football HOF. And we have fans that think he doesn't understand how important football is?
What baseball didn't do is say back in 2023 that we had to hire Zach Arnett to keep the high school class together.
Baseball didn't say that NIL was a fad.
Baseball didn't say that we had to hire coaches like Chad Bumphis and David Turner and that they just HAD to be on staff.
The problem is we have too many fans that think that the issue is if we don't fund baseball it will fix football somehow. And that is classic MSU fans. Let's cut off our nose to spite our face and then we suddenly have nothing and we wonder where it went wrong and blame Mark Keenum for it.
MSU baseball is successful because it doesn't cut corners. Which is exactly what Ole Miss football has done under Kiffin by the way. MSU baseball doesn't say that we have to be like Cal State Fullerton and we have to have a coach that does things a little bit differently. MSU baseball doesn't complain because football gets the lion's share of the money either.
The solution for MSU football is to stop cutting corners.
The problem is our entire fanbase treating football like a second hand sport and baseball like the king.
"Baseball" didn't take NIL seriously- The baseball boosters took NIL seriously. The same baseball boosters that you claim also give to football. They might give to both now but it certainly didn't start that way. It's because first priority in their minds go to a sport that on the larger scale does not matter. College hockey generates 2 times more revenue than college baseball. Imagine what your thoughts would be if Michigan prioritzed their hockey program and put football on the back burner, We and the rest of the country would think they are pretty foolish. Ole Miss football probably generated more money for the university in the last 2 weeks than baseball has generated for ours in the last 2 decades.

I am really tired of our administration thinking that hiring coordinators is a good idea. They need to wake up and realize it only worked with Dan because he was mentored by Urban Meyer who is the 2nd greatest coach in the modern era of CFB outside Saban and he won 2 NCs. We would have been so much better off hiring Vigen or Rogers. Just like in 2018 when I wanted Klieman and people said that would be underwhelming. Funny part is Klieman was then hired in 2019 and came into DWS and made Moorhead look even more foolish than we already knew he would be. We have fans who tell me
Cig would?ve been underwhelming at the time, yet he was a head coach many places and won everywhere he went. Instead we hire a coordinator with no head coaching experience and no playoff experience. That is a lot more underwhelming than Cig, Vigen or Rogers. Deikert showed last night that he is a better coach with less talent than Lebby. I just pray we never hire another coordinator again.

I don?t think the majority of fans feel this way. None I talk to living in Starkville so. We just like and emphasize baseball because we?ve actually had success in it. If football had some life we?d be all aboard.
Guarantee Indiana is all aboard football now.

It?s so hard for me watching Indiana knowing that if our AD did his job that Cignetti would be coaching State right now. When you know this for a fact and not just speculation it?s hard to not get royally mad about it.

You are just not right about this.
We were 4-0 heading into Tennessee this year. Probably the biggest and most important game in a few years at DWS. It was not a sellout, and 25% of the fans that were in the stadium were Tennessee fans. I guarantee our first baseball game will be freezing and February 13th, and it will be standing room only to watch us play Hofstra.

Different people. The baseball money is from a completely different group.

The two aren't related. It's not like we took football money and gave it to baseball.
The baseball money is new money from a group that wanted to win. It's not like they would have given the money to football instead.
Just get the right guy at the top and things will fall into place.

Mark my words, State will be left out in realignment and then baseball will matter even less.
Our administration had almost zero to do with it.
To the contrary, selmon's priority is football and he's let that be known.

How much money do you think we spend on baseball and on football?

And there will have been 4 times as many State fans at that TN game than at the Hofstra game.
What football team that has had a losing record three seasons in a row and is 2-22 in conference play the last three seasons is drawing more fans than us?

South Carolina sells out their stadium every year no matter what their record. Ok State and WVU had more fans in their stadium after a couple terrible years. It?s not even our fans not showing up it?s the fact they sell their tickets to visiting fans and make half the stadium opposing fans. At least other schools like Pitt and Boston College who have attendance issues just have empty seats and don?t sell their tickets to all the visitors.

Ok state had 35k reported at its most recent home game. That's reported, not actual.
WVU had 44k reported. And I don't think their record has been as bad as us the last 3 seasons.
Not sure when the last time USCe went 2-22 in sec play, but good for them if they did and kept selling out.

Baseball and "Other sports" ( so granted this is not all their debt) reports a deficit of 3.15 million dollars in 2024. Football reported a profit of 8.2 million in a 2-10 season. Also, baseball contributions increased 9.5 million dollars from 2023 to 2024.
-
I would guess between baseball and the "other sports" that baseball is pulling most of the heavy expenses in that group.

Do we know how much we spend on baseball and how much we spend on football?
-
I know that football operates at a profit and baseball operates at a deficit which is all that matters.

No it doesn't. The debate above was not about profitability. You said we prioritize baseball over football. That's the debate.
If we are giving 3 million in university funds to baseball and 50 million to football, that totally defeats the argument that our administration is prioritizing baseball over football.

No our fans like baseball. They actually give way more to football. There is a difference.
