Sam Purcell press conference

I know Women's basketball isn't as popular as it once was around here right now, but we have a pretty good team and need more fan support. This may be the most fiery presser I've seen from Sam since he has been here, you can see the hunger in his eyes for the 1st time. For those who watch the girls play, you can see the talent is there... we have some special players on this team and Sam knows it. Hopefully the ladies can start getting more support.

He can definitely coach and recruit. We just need to hold on to the players.

Thats my biggest worry, if we can hold on to our top players we can build something special with this core. But like he mentioned in the presser, you typically have 9 months a year with each team because you can almost expect players to leave.

Coach Purcell knows that they could be really good but yet at the same time so far away from that potential being consistently executed on the basketball court. But...he knows it's still early in the season and a fairly good amount of time to continue preparing his team as they rapidly approach SEC play. Also, he sees this team practice regularly and have a pretty good idea about their potential and with that his own expectations. My opinion he's starting to become more aware that in addition to players like freshman Madison Francis and Favour Nwaedozi..been noticing how good this young lady Destiney Mcphaul is and how big of a weapon she could potentially become for this team if they could get her to going more..a lot more. He indicated recently that she needs to start stepping up more, take the initiative. Mcphaul is one of the best, most head turning guards that people (including Miss. State casual fans) haven't heard of in women's college basketball. Appears the coaching staff is just starting to turn her loose....keep watching.
Also, don't sleep on freshman Jaylah Lampley. Will mention, mention the point guards continue to be coming along and Chandler Prater continues to appear as a player that goes hard every game. Also, K. Richardson getting better by the game. No doubt the other players not mentioned here continuing to work hard, get better. Coaching staff, staff in general, trainers, managers, practice players, ect... hard workers..a mention as well.

I am personally not a fan of women's basketball and never have been. However, I wish them well and really hope that they win and represent the university well. The truth is that it will never be as popular as it once was without the cult like following that we had behind Vic Schaeffer. His leaving was like a personal insult to our fanbase for most, and I would suspect that a lot of people 65 or older are now fans of Texas because of his following. It is really weird.
