What is the reasoning behind making a 1 year old have their own ticket?

One of our friends has a 1 year old and wanted to bring the entire family to the game. She checked with the ticket office and apparently this 1 year old will need their own ticket. I thought it would be like airline rules where they wouldn't need a seat so no need for a ticket.

Has it always been this way? And also, why would we not want to make it easier to bring small kids to the game. It cost nothing and you get a kid raised with going to games. This is very short sighted / greedy.

It's all about $ at every level. 58 consecutive years of football season tickets, 8 to 12, yet we have been hit three times, (twice by mail and most recently by email), to pay our 26/27 Bulldog Club Club dues (seating fees) of over $5K. The deadline (In very small print is 6/30/26), and we just paid 25/26 in this past March. I complained to the Bulldog Club all three times as did several more of my long time season ticket holder friends. I told them that they would get this $ for year 59, but not 8 months in advance. Note: There are many tickets in Section 4 that went unsold and always filled by the opposing fans as many long term fans are losing interest (1-14 to date in SEC games the last two years), and have more enjoyable interests for their hard earned $ on fall Saturdays.

I also told them that they had a lot of nerve going up on tickets and Bulldog Club dues after last year's 2-10, 0-8, and doubted that they gained any revenue as many people I know bailed out.

Our tone deaf, "powers to be" will probably rise prices again next year leaving long suffering MSU fans at home and plenty more seats for our SEC opponents' fans.

Talking to other people, I could see needing the extra seat because of diaper bag and other stuff. I don't have kids so I really didn't think of that.

Man maybe I'm the lone wolf here but I hate how greedy and inconsiderate the world has become. 58 years.. wow. That's incredible.

And you're right. Are they really turning a profit by raising prices but losing customers? Maybe. But I doubt it's as much as they are hoping for.

It has to do with established seating limits and coding. Every butt has to be accounted for to not be over limit.

I don't understand bringing kids that young to games. It's not like they're going to remember it. There's going to be tons of chaos and cowbells ringing which I would imagine is likely going to upset a little kid who isn't going to understand what's going on. And you have to watch them the whole game which has to take away from the overall experience. Most of the people that I see bringing kids that young to games end up leaving by halftime- if they're lucky.

Now, to each their own but I say this as a guy whose parents left him with babysitters while they watched MSU beat Alabama in 1980. And you know what? That's cool because I was 3 at the time and I wouldn't have remembered anything and I would have been ready to go after 5 minutes of game time in the first quarter.

As someone who has 4 kids ages 6 & Under: Yes, its challenging to attend games with little ones. However, paying a babysitter for 4 + hours is more expensive than the game ticket. Plus, living in a college town, all of our babysitters are college students and none of them are ever available on gamedays.
