Cowbells: I know this will be unpopular but
I was at the Texas game. Usually go to two or three games a year. The cowbells were ridiculous. Our fans are idiots. Ringing the cowbell is supposed to be for celebration and annoying the other team up until they're over the ball. That was not what was happening. Constantly ringing the cowbell made it so we couldn't even have conversations between plays. What's worse is our idiot fans were ringing the cowbell when we were on offense. Including the two false starts in overtime at least half the fan base was ringing cowbells. It is hard to fathom how stupid our fan base is.

We have too many that don't know: 1. How to ring a cowbell and 2. When to ring it.
It's absolutely insane when I'm having to yell at people in my section to shut up when we're on offense. And now opposing fan bases have figured out that if they just start making noise our fans will try to ring their cowbells to drown them out....WHEN WE'RE ON OFFENSE.

The stupidity of our fanbase has been noted many times.
Ringing your bell while we are on offense is about as dumb as it gets.
-
Our stadium is louder when everyone yells . When most ring cowbells they don't say anything.
-
Meh. A big nothing burger!
High School Bands play the entire time either team is on offense. Just continuous playing like the game is about them! And they are a lot closer to the field than our fans!
Also, I believe Golfers should have to listen to crowds jeering and yelling in their backswings! If they are any good, it will not bother them!

Ha, I don't know why people say this because that is about like saying the clarinet player is louder than the jet flyover.
Cowbells are freakin loud and absolutely intimidate the other team as well as fire up our team and fanbase.

Yes there were a few times Saturday that bells rang when we had the ball but it wasn't bad. That is very rare and I've been coming to games since 1980. No reason to make a big deal about it because it ain't.
Here are some reasons.
Some less experienced fans were over excited about the game.
Some less experienced fans don't know the rules, dos, don'ts. Those that do around any ringing at wrong time should educate them and why. I have done it and I've seen others do it. Pass on the tradition.
We are bringing in new fans and viewers a lot. This is a great thing for MSU brand. We need to be welcoming these new fans in not calling them idiots.
The cowbells make DWS special. Players, fans, media, etc. know this. Even when we don't win, people remember and talk about the experience. It was awesome again last Sat in DWS. Students and fans brought it with the bell.
My daughter's boyfriend came up from Miami, FL - he goes to the U there. He had never been to an SEC game before. He got him a bell and participated. He said it was awesome and the best game atmosphere he has ever seen. He got an MSU hat and we just got another MSU fan. Embrace our special environment because it is special. Even blue bloods don't have what we have.
Hail State!!!

It's not very rare. It's happened every game since we brought them back in 09. It just seems to have gotten worse this year.

Yes it is rare that it is noticeable in the stadium in a way that any way affects our Offense. Are there a few bells ringing here and there all the time, sure but nothing significant. Did it happen several times the worst I've seen last Saturday - yes but again it is rare.
I've seen it quiet as a church mouse most of time when we got the ball. I admit it is worse this year.
This year our discipline across the board is way off from previous years at all times. It is very noticeable but I'll give fans a pass because of reasons I already listed.
In respect to ring responsible, I think fans are like I don't care on ring responsible because they are tired of every other school cheating to win; they just want to win.
Not only do I know a lot of new fans but I see them every game. Many their first game there.

Ha! My son plays high scool football. Starting OL. He complains about the band playing while on offense. Says a lot of times they can't hear their playcalls because of their own band.
-
I have never understood when it is 3rd down and we have the ball our fans standing up and ringing. I guarantee it causes issues getting the play call.
Do agree with R2 though. Train up the youngins, build the fanbase far and wide

I think the complainers are Auburn fans in disguise (it was Auburn that complained and had the cowbells banned to begin with)! I agree, ring them loud! This tradition is what separates State from all other universities. Ringing “responsibly” is an idea straight from satan in the pits of hell! It is totally unreasonable and highly biased decision by the SEC. Go tell Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, or another mega sized stadiums to limit its noise and place limits on when they can “cheer”/make noise. It is total BS.

I was a student at State when we upset Auburn and Shug Jordan pitched a fit, thus our cowbells were banned by a vote of 9-1. I never quit carrying my homemade bell that my late SuperDog had made for myself and my brother-in-law as a Christmas gift decades ago into games. It has been welded and repaired many times at various vocational schools and industries. My only regret is that JWS autographed it with "Bring to ALL Games" along with Joe Lee Dunn many years ago. That is long gone, as I should have had this advice and the autographs clear coated. I do ring responsibly now. Funny though, none of our opponents ever complained about them as long as we were losing to them. Hail State!

I thought this was going to be about Cowbell's. Rip

No no… that place is out of business for a reason

I have the privilege to work with people from all around the country and the world.. and let me just say that I haven't found many fans that are fond of our cowbells. I've tried to get guys to come to baseball and football games with me and they won't because of cowbells and that makes it that much more special
