Why were we throwing the ball?
Could there be environmental factors that cause this dumbing down of our coaches?

The only reason to throw the ball was to try and hit someone near the sideline to stop the clock. If we were going to throw short in the middle of the field, then I agree we should have just run the ball. It would have been safer and would have accomplished about the same thing. Either way we were going to have to rush to the line to clock the ball to stop the clock in time to try the FG.

Yes- this was the problem more than the QB. Terrible playcall there leading to the pick. RTGDF and we most likely win

You forgot step one. Why did we call a timeout there?
Make Florida call the timeout.
Run the ball on 2nd down.
Make Florida call another time out.
Kick on 3rd down (in case you fumble the snap)
If Florida doesn?t call a timeout at any point you run the clock down to 3 seconds and kick the field goal.
Not a hard script to follow.

Very bad way to lose a game in your SECOND year. Guy is going to be 0-16 in the SEC at the end of they year. This is also not the year to be coach hunting with all the openings. Worst loss ever.

This. I was updating my wife of our situation, 2nd down... on their 29 yd line... less than a minute to go... best kicker we've had since, uh maybe Westerfield... and she's says, "We'll probably miss it" and I said yep. Guess we'll never know thanks to our 5th year senior QB.

Everyone in the restrauant I was in said WTF is he calling a timeout for and then you can imagine the uproar when the INT happened.
