So far Petrino along with Sumrall and Lashlee have been the three names tossed around, but it seems like it rarely goes to the early targets.
Sumrall wants the UK job and it will probably be open this season.
What's the word on Malzahn?

Most would prefer a younger innovative coach this time around. Gus is still a pretty divisive figure with average Hog fans, but Lashlee is from his coaching tree and could also potentially unlock a lot of the same $$$ from the big money boosters. His wife has some family pretty high up the chain in the Walmart c-suite.

I think Lashlee is the target and it will get interesting. SMU has as much money as they need- so it wont be money. But prestige matters so that helps UPig.
Mullen is surely an option based on his history. He becomes even more attractive as a guy that has shown he can squeeze talent out of a dollar.
Petrino has a shot- but it would take old school money to come in to support him moving forward
Walk like the King or walk like you don't care who the King is

Petrino is either at an advantage or disadvantage depending on the rest of the season plays out. I think he is at a disadvantage because their defense is bad. But if he wins games, that could be enough to promote him. If he loses and they keep looking bad- and let's be honest his unit cost them the Ole Miss and Memphis game by fumbling in the fourth quarter- I think it hurts him.

With NIL now it?s almost worth it to just hire whomever your big money donors want regardless of where they rank on the pecking order so you have an unlimited funding source. The AD doesn?t hire Calipari without John Tyson being good friends with him. I?m not sure Lashlee is a better coach than Sumrall TBH but the potential connections he has with the big money folks probably trumps that.

Agree.

Listened to SMU and Arkansas podcasts last night. Both say Lashlee is the top target and probably will be the next head coach at Arkansas.

Bigger question is, who hires Pittman as an OL coach. Isn't he a seriously good OL coach?

Sad state of college football right there.
