It's really a moot point anyway. We're not scoring 70 with backup players anyway. We'll never be Bama or Ohio State.

Yeah with NIL comes "your feelings don't matter". We have mouths to feed on this team, and letting them play our normal offense is how you keep kids from transferring out. Nobody wants to play the last quarter and line up for hand offs up the middle...they'll say peace out after the season. Feed these guys, and keep them. We can't afford to lose all of our young talent that's not quite ready to start every offseason

Yeah Tony Dow's character had character. Not something to make fun of. Unless of course you don't value that. Which ......

Don't mismatch. Has nothing to do with 'feelings'. It's about being honorable.

Never going to be an issue if we use our backups.

We aren't scoring 70.
We are working on cleaning up some run blocking issues. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire first half is heavy run schemes.
We'll be playing everybody on defense. We're going to need that experience down the road.
I can see us scoring in the low 50s on this one.

One thing I think we might need to do as fans in general- myself included- is give Arizona State a lot more credit for being really good. They're a veteran team and their strength last year was stopping the run. So right now I'm not too worried about our run game. I do think the run game is something we need to develop and I'd like to see Gayten, Davis, and Daniels get a few touches but at the same time we also need to develop and find some receivers that can help us in addition to Thompson and Evans. So, I think part of the game plan will be trying to get guys like Ayden Williams a little more involved so that they can be more of a factor in SEC play for us.
We also need to get Kroemenhoek some experience and Kamario too for that matter. And their running is on point but we need to develop them as passers too. KT hasn't thrown a pass in college yet and if Shapen goes down and he is the back up that's getting close to the situation we were in with MVB last year.

Exactly. We have to throw our younger players a bone or they're going to leave.
Plus, with Kamario Taylor if he performs well it will show high school recruits what our potential future QB looks like.

The Chrome Hawk is better anyways. And Super Kamario is already a thing.

They will line up and play cover 4 all day inviting us to run, run, run.

They can set their corners 10-12 yds off the ball and have their safeties damn near in prevent and it won't matter. There's going to be plenty of SEC teams that can't cover Thompson and Evans. They may both have 150 yds and 2 TDS......at the half.
But I do expect that both Fluff and Booth will break a big one.

It also would be inviting us to make some short throws in space against zone and hopefully allow us to get some receivers touches and confidence.
All for that game plan!

I think it's just good for the state of Mississippi. And yeah, I'm OK playing USM every now and then too. Like twice every six years is good enough for me.
Now, that said this is another opportunity for MSU to build perception. And what I want to see MSU do is score at least 60 on Alcorn. This is a page from the Ole Miss playbook of perception. Blow someone out that is a smaller school and put up a ridiculous number of points and then have everyone talk about how explosive your offense is. That's how we need to follow up our win over Arizona State was of course massive for perception in and of itself.
The gaudy offensive numbers help with recruiting and it makes it look like fun to play in if you are an offensive recruit.
So, let's not be "rational" MSU fans and talk about how "yeah, we scored a lot of points but it was Alcorn- we should score 65." And I don't want to see "We really ran it up on Alcorn- was that necessary?" if we are so fortunate enough to be able to play well enough to score a ton. Because the answer is yes, it is necessary for perception and Alcorn is getting a nice check from MSU so they will be fine.
Now- and I'm being really random here I know- I used to LOVE watching the SWAC highlights from Rob Jay on Sports Journal on Channel 3 in Jackson. Especially when Steve McNair was at Alcorn. Absolutely incredible stuff! I wanted him to win the Heisman so bad even though I knew it wasn't going to happen. He was a special talent.
I worked with one of his WRs that was actually in his recruiting class with him. He was heavily recruited as a safety by everyone in the SEC. He went to Alcorn because his brother did and they only recruited him as a QB.
Jackie Sherrill told him that he could be a hall of fame safety.

Agree, ASU has got a really good team. I think they are better than last year. We beat a really good team. I think now I can say we have a good team, not just improved. We absolutely can win 6-7 games just playing to our potential.

Jackie did say that as part of his recruiting, along with all the other big time programs. Jackie actually recruited him as a QB. The family felt that Jackie was only going to give him a shot at QB though and try to move him to safety quickly. There was a track record of that with Jackie and a QB at TAM that got moved quickly to safety. That is first hand information from Monk and Freddie. Miami was recruiting him hard too as a safety.

I have so much State Fan PTSD that I'm nervous about every single score assumption in this thread.
