Maddox Webb, relief pitcher, from the citadel. Possibly at least one more today.

Kirby coaches catchers so it could be Majewski from Seton Hall.

I know nothing about baseball, can the HS catcher that just committed be impactful next year, or do catchers need a year or two (like linemen in football)?

They can be impactful but you also don't want to completely rely on a freshman normally. Ideally, you would want to pair them up with a veteran like a Joe Powell, Josh Lovelady, or in a perfect world a guy like Logan Tanner.

Depending on how good they are and how quickly they can adjust to college/SEC baseball you could potentially catch them at least one game a weekend and against most midweek teams so you can ease them in.

Obviously, they have to be able to hit, control the running game, block, and frame pitches but the other big thing I think is the pitchers have to trust them. It may be intimidating for a freshman to catch a guy like junior year Ethan Small.

I think it's a good pick up because he can compete for a weekend spot and if he doesn't win it I could see him being a guy who we could use for multiple innings out of the bullpen potentially.

These pickups are a bit underwhelming for $2.9 MM per year........

These coaches are learning that the SEC does the portal differently. I think they thought the UVA guys would just sign no questions asked and are now learning that the open market in the SEC is different.
